Quite a stunning set - specially that Crimson Sunbird  on the previous page!

Beautiful, Rob. The bottom could almost literally fall out of the sky, and you'd still find a way to render a lovely photograph.

Years past, Yellow Bitterns in these parts were relatively confiding birds.  Not so now.  The instant after I got the shot this one bolted, ejecting a stream of poop and cursing me vehemently in Bitternese . . . 🙃

Hi Rob,

Do you happen to know what the spherical objects are that are hanging from the tree in the right hand lower quadrant of your picture?  Some sort of fruit?  Or ... have you actually discovered the world's first baseball tree?

Pete.

Hi Pete,

The tree is Nyireh Batu (Xylocarpus moluccensis).  There's some information about it here.   I've seen it in only a couple of mangrove/coastal forests here in SG.  According to this source, the fruit is called a Mangrove Cannonball and is used for "stomach problems."   Not in my belly!

Rob
