I’ve never before seen an entire beach made of shells. Not a few shells, and not just in the sand, but a beach made of small shells by the million. It’s like walking in bones.

The tall skeletal towers are the legs of an oil rig that has nothing to do currently.

I also discovered some sea defences, sitting by some tank traps that are being buried by the sea.

Everything about this place is fascinating, I’m going to go back in a few weeks as the light starts to change and see what it looks like. I’m also going to explore closer to where that oil rig is.

Final Isle of Grain images for a while.

Im not sure if you can see the difference but the first image is shot 90 degrees off of where I normally shoot at that location. The sky looks so much clearer. The place seems to have some highly localised pollution looking out to the mouth of the estuary. In an earlier image you can see a strong haze and shadow around the battery, that’s not Photoshop!

The second photo shows a group of teenagers coming back from exploring the battery. The were carrying film cameras, Pen F etc. Nice bunch but highly skeptical and very aware of the SL. I’ll be taking the M10 when I go back and start to talk to the locals more.

The last photo is one from an area normally fenced off. The sea air rusts everything here extremely quickly, and the fence had fallen over. So I chanced it and wandered in. Took this one image before I was asked to leave.

Now the light is changing Im going to wander the streets away from the estuary and see if I can speak to and photograph the locals.

Long term project this :)

Is that brown round thing there in the foreground a turtle?
