Are we still talking about a new M or are most accpeting it will be a new SL in 4 days?

An interesting question. Sean Reid has just e-mailed his subscribers to tell us that a series of articles will be posted on RR next week. We can either assume he has written several pieces about one camera, or one piece each about a few cameras.

I am hoping that Sean's request for R glass portended shooting R on SL. We will know in a few days...  tempted to go to the New York show, as Leica has invited its loyal masses to come Thursday "to see the unveiling of the newest addition to the Leica family at the PhotoPlus Expo."  Is anyone going?

Advertisement (gone after registration)

....... but the teaser currently says 'some things will never change' ........ until 20th October .....

.... and if I recall correctly the only thing Leica has been fairly adamant about not changing in the past is the M as an optical RF camera .......

so maybe we will all be surprised after all ......

The fact it isn't registered yet may just mean it won't be available till some time in the future ........

… in which case it would make no sense to announce it prematurely, like next week. Obviously there will be a new M at some point in the future; in that sense predicting a next M will most likely be spot on.

How different can/must a camera be to require registering a new Typ designation?

Remember the M Monochrom (Typ 230) that got registered with Korea Radio Research Laboratory in May 2014? That was just the silver version of the original M Monochrom.

Ok, the latest information I've got is that new camera will be sort of Q compatable with M and S lenses. Which for me sounds strange. That means that's with the S lenses it will be autofocus camera and putting M you will have to focus manually.

Saying sort of Q I mean only electronic viewfinder and autofocus facilities. But my question is how may of us have M and S lenses at the same time. I am M sort of guy and doubt that I'm going to buy S lenses unless I switch to S system. But in that case  I will rid off the M stuff to finance the S purchase. Very interesting decision by Leica.

Being a topic starter of that thread I feel the deepest sad that Leica is not presenting a new M but trying to kill the M philosophy introducing the substitutes of great M system.
