Can anyone give me any reason why the camera body should be bulkier ("SLR-like") if a new camera had more or less the Q-technology with some interchangeable lenses?

For one thing you cannot really compare a system (interchangeable lens) camera to a compact camera like the Q. And for SLR-like … Olympus (Pen), Sony (NEX), and Fuji (X-Pro) all started with rangefinder look-alikes with a flat top (although neither of these models was an actual rangefinder). But the Olympus, Sony, and Fuji models most successful these days are the OM-D, Alpha 7, and X-T, i.e. bodies reminiscent of an SLR from the 70s.

It is all interesting to read what people want and don't want in a new M.  The question is what makes the M unique?  For me, a totally manual simple yet superior camera is a joy to use.  I want a camera that forces me to "think".   Add all these 'features' ..... Starting to lose it for me.  The 'range finder' should be a keeper always, even if it's in electronic form.  Keeping it portable and discreet, an absolute must!

I agree and in this respect it would be very weird if Leica came up with a new camera called M with AF

I would be disappointed to see the T go, not because I have one, but because it is a great camera with three great zooms.  It compliments my M, gives me a Leica System backup for my M Lenses if needed and  is relatively (for a Leica) inexpensive.  I could go on but I see no need to.

The T could be a good complement to my M7 as well, small and light, but at 4 k eur (body+evf+23+m adapter) and with not sure future...

On the other side Leica made an investment in this camera and should support more, a couple of fast primes more, some promotion etc...not everybody looking for FF sensor ...

Every camera Leica offers has strengths and weaknesses.  That said, what is right for one person may not not right for another.  We make our choices based on what we need, like to use and can afford.  There is no right or wrong choice, only the choice you make.  Whatever choice, enjoy the camera and take great photos.

I thought you mentioned earlier it was named the Leica (olfgang)

So no replacement for the current M, but a new sideline system camera, for a different user group. But perhaps with some common new features with a (shortly) forthcoming new M

Would be a suicide for this new body. When i knew that the T would not bring anything special for M lenses, i canceled my order and ordered a Fuji. This time i would not even order the new (R or W?) and would buy a Sony. FWIW.

I agree... I never used AF and surely won't invest in a body which ties me to AF and excludes my M lenses (and will never start to build up a R lenses set... ;) ) ; it's true (from my feel) that AF seems to be one of the whishes in our community but M users,I think, would feel "pissed out" with no capability of M lenses

I don't know Wolfgang but it is more likely that an AF high quality line would be called Q.

If it weren’t for the fact that ‘Q’ is already taken … The Leica Q is a compact (fixed lens) camera, not a system camera with interchangeable lenses.

It aint going to be called a Q.............as previous stated they/he is hinting at a W

If the AF is half as good as what the AF is like on the Q then we will be in for a winner................It might even be a hit with the film old boys (me included) as according to the specs it will have both live view and EVF :)

This new rumor sounds promising. I posted here in a thread about four years ago, what Leica needed was a fullframe camera similar to the S. The best ergonomics with a larger body, built in grip, weather sealing, AF lenses. The ergonomics are important and the camera will be used a lot.

Question remains to whom will it sell.

W or Q or whatever letter they'll  choose... I suggest mods to change the name of this thread...  B) it's clear that we (and them, and the insiders, and the Wolfgangs...  :p) are not speaking about a new M.

Much more logical would be Leica A. W aint sexy in the first place. R and M stem from reflex and rangefinder in German, that's logical. S is probably referring to Studio. Walking through the alphabet has no substantial meaning. Can't think of something in German that refers to AF with a W
