mjh Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1683 Posted October 17, 2015 I think I have said it before: There are no rumours of any substance about a new M.

gpwhite Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1685 Posted October 17, 2015 Are we still talking about a new M or are most accpeting it will be a new SL in 4 days? An interesting question. Sean Reid has just e-mailed his subscribers to tell us that a series of articles will be posted on RR next week. We can either assume he has written several pieces about one camera, or one piece each about a few cameras. I am hoping that Sean's request for R glass portended shooting R on SL. We will know in a few days... tempted to go to the New York show, as Leica has invited its loyal masses to come Thursday "to see the unveiling of the newest addition to the Leica family at the PhotoPlus Expo." Is anyone going?
mjh Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1686 Posted October 17, 2015 Which rumours have substance? Well, Leica did register an SL (Typ 601) and an X-U (Typ 113). Nothing of similar substance has been forthcoming regarding a new M.
thighslapper Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1687 Posted October 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) ....... but the teaser currently says 'some things will never change' ........ until 20th October ..... .... and if I recall correctly the only thing Leica has been fairly adamant about not changing in the past is the M as an optical RF camera ....... so maybe we will all be surprised after all ...... The fact it isn't registered yet may just mean it won't be available till some time in the future ........
luigi bertolotti Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1688 Posted October 17, 2015 Personally, I have no hurry at all about a new M...
lct Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1689 Posted October 17, 2015 Neither do i but a smaller, lighter and faster M would be tempting indeed...
mjh Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1690 Posted October 17, 2015 The fact it isn't registered yet may just mean it won't be available till some time in the future ........ … in which case it would make no sense to announce it prematurely, like next week. Obviously there will be a new M at some point in the future; in that sense predicting a next M will most likely be spot on.
semi-ambivalent Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1691 Posted October 17, 2015 Well, Leica did register an SL (Typ 601) and an X-U (Typ 113). Nothing of similar substance has been forthcoming regarding a new M. How different can/must a camera be to require registering a new Typ designation? s-a
IkarusJohn Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1692 Posted October 17, 2015 How different can/must a camera be to require registering a new Typ designation? s-a Only if there is an innovation that needs a patent. There's no particular reason to patent the new version of a camera just because it's new.
lct Posted October 17, 2015 Share #1693 Posted October 17, 2015 What mjh nearly disclosed is the next M will be innovative enough to require a new patent and it won't be launched this year if i understand well.

mjh Posted October 18, 2015 Share #1695 Posted October 18, 2015 How different can/must a camera be to require registering a new Typ designation? Remember the M Monochrom (Typ 230) that got registered with Korea Radio Research Laboratory in May 2014? That was just the silver version of the original M Monochrom. EdwardM Posted October 18, 2015 Author Share #1697 Posted October 18, 2015 Ok, the latest information I've got is that new camera will be sort of Q compatable with M and S lenses. Which for me sounds strange. That means that's with the S lenses it will be autofocus camera and putting M you will have to focus manually. Saying sort of Q I mean only electronic viewfinder and autofocus facilities. But my question is how may of us have M and S lenses at the same time. I am M sort of guy and doubt that I'm going to buy S lenses unless I switch to S system. But in that case I will rid off the M stuff to finance the S purchase. Very interesting decision by Leica. Being a topic starter of that thread I feel the deepest sad that Leica is not presenting a new M but trying to kill the M philosophy introducing the substitutes of great M system. Exodies Posted October 18, 2015 Share #1698 Posted October 18, 2015 If that's how it turns out it's very good news; I don't need a GAS attack.
lct Posted October 18, 2015 Share #1699 Posted October 18, 2015 If it is compatible with S lenses if will fit R lenses as well. Not sure about T lenses in APS mode though.
thighslapper Posted October 18, 2015 Share #1700 Posted October 18, 2015 ........ does anyone know whether T lenses will give 35mm coverage ? ........ I always thought the T mount was unusually large for the size of sensor in the actual camera ........
