I am finding that my Leica lenses work better on the A7RII than they do on the M240 (because I can select the point for manual focus magnification and because the corner colour shift seems to have been consigned to history.  Higher dynamic range, high ISO performance, MPx, and image stabilisation and lower weight / bulk are several more nails in the M240's coffin.  I was going to get some Sony / Zeiss lenses but they are either performance compromised or heavy; the Leica lenses do the job at least as well, drawing very attractive images as we know.

It may be that the new Fujitsu processor will give the forthcoming Leica better performance within the power budget envelope and we will be as pleasantly surprised with the new M as we were with theQ, but the bar has v definitely been raised.

I agree, but the other way around. After habituation I prefer the digital M thickness and heft. It depends on the configuration of one's hands I suppose.

I certainly agree with preferring the thickness of the digital M - I find the thickness (and the thumb grip) make the M240 easier for me to grip well vs. film Ms.

I am starting to question the heft, however - mainly because I am currently hiking in the French Alps, and whilst the M240 and 35mm f2 are superb in use, does it really benefit from such heavy materials (brass etc) in its construction? If I drop it, sure, the brass top will survive well, but the sensor or rangefinder will likely go out of wack - so what's the real benefit of the brass and other heavy materials in terms of ruggedness?

Maybe the answer is not to change the M's heft, but rather just not to carry it up mountains for miles - I have to admit I've already researched the Q's weight during this trip!!

I get callled a Brit. Do I care? No, I'm not bothered. I get called a Sassenach. Do I care? No, I'm not bothered. I get called a Limey. Do I care? No, Im not bothered, I get called rosbif by the frogs. Do I care, do they care? No, we all live with it.

Please stop all this silly nonsense. I look for support from all nationals who have their leg pulled including Paddy, Fritz, etc. Life will go on. Just slope your shoulder and it passes by.

Nicknames for nationals are perfectly normal and the Japs will have to handle it like everyone else. So will the the Yanks, Aussies, Kiwis, etc.

If I have offended anyone by missing you out then please add your national nickname to the list so we can all get over it.

We are an international group on this forum. I respect every nation. I also respect the right to have a nickname and the right for anyone else to have a nickname.

Were you in the British Navy?

Hi Jrp, Happy to read that your Leica lenses perform well on the A7R II. Could you be so kind to tell us which lenses did you use?

Perhaps thicker skin and longer fuses are in order these days??  I have been called some foul names in my day and my response has always been the same:  "Hah!  I've been called worse by my own mother and lived to tell!"

I regret to say that you are wrong in your assertion. I said I have been called a Limey , which is true, and I am not bothered by that nickname. Whether I was in the Royal Navy or not makes no difference.

Anyway, this is a camera forum so please explain what your problem is and what this has to do with a new M type camera?

I heard that with the new camera Wetzlar will be offering a service to reconfigure your hands to calibrate them to the new thickness (though there will be a wait). If your hands go out of alignment you can get them re-calibrated under warranty.
