Well, I seem to have tracked down the manufacturer and supplier of this filter. Only problem is I can't read the page so don't know how to order.

Can anyone help?

Google Translate is only partially helpful, link below, scroll to bottom of page to see picture of item.

https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?spm=a21wu.12321156-tw.0.0.63c93a32ZNRdEe&depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&pto=aue&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=zh-TW&sp=nmt4&u=https://item.taobao.com/item.htm%3Fid%3D23169168790&usg=ALkJrhg28jquIo3xWwVSQJvHfg1lYbmy4g

got this one too, it is SUPER thin.

shipped from China to Australia. this one is custom made by LARRY GADGET SUPPLY, a online shop.

website seems not working with the translator, but if you can order one choose the e43 option. ¥289RMB + shipping

gonna give it a test on the weekend.

Thanks for the photo and confirming. Please let us know how it performs and also how the ordering process was?

Is there an English version of the site? How long from ordering till you received the filter?

Could you also send a photo without the hood on the lens?

Thanks!!

hope this time the photo works.

I just ordered from the TAOBAO website (similar to EBAY),

there's a transfer depot for international parcels.

don't think there's an English website. I think that's the biggest problem.

roughly 10 days from ordering.

  • 5 weeks later...

Just picked up a BC made in Portugal. Can confirm the issue still exists 🙃

I've had success with partially screwing on a UV filter and then clipping the hood over the gap between the filter and the lens. I then tighten the filter to the lens body by gently rotating the hood. Works for the few moments I need a hood.

When I bought this lens, I was aware of the problem thanks to this thread. I wrote to Leica and they sent me a fixed hood FOC and screws perfectly into my UV filter. My clip-on hood resides in the box and has never been used.

I did however also in the meantime while waiting for the new hood order a hood from Overgaard. Service was very poor and I had to chase them up every 14 days of status. When it finally arrived, I was very pleased. Works great with my 46mm ND filters which I have permanently screwed into this hood. Best feature is that the vents are aligned not to block the rangefinder. No complaints about paint quality that others have had.

Thanks, but hard to see what the «solution» is about. Still stuck with this «problem» lens & still curious 🤨

... but wow, the Kevlar version... soooo nice 👍😀

What Leica have done is they have replaced the clip-on part with a screw in part that stress into the lens or the filter.

Yes, the Reporter... I was NOT going into the M10's I told myself and then this came out... my knees went weak...

Now I see. How did you go about it to get it done? I thank you for all guidance 😀

PS: ...and no vignetting caused by moving the hood a bit out...?

I wrote how in my post above.
No, those few mm’s are negliable.

Hi again Patrik

To get it right... they did not modify the original hood, (this one you kept all the time) but sent you a new modified one upon request? Is this new hood a modified brass one as well? Hope its OK that i am still asking questions!

Yes, exactly like I wrote above.
However, in this thread some had to send in their original ones to be modified. I was lucky I guess, or perhaps because My charming personality! 😂😂

Hi Stein K S

My modified hood arrived today from Germany via Leica New Jersey.

Its in two parts. The original base and a modified hood that can now be screwed into the filter thread. Please mnote that the  modified hood cannot be reattached to the base shown. It may be that you have to remove the modified part of the hood to do so but i haven't tried to separate it.

Fortunately, i have the original hood also

Hi and thanks a lot Kwesi! I will pursue this option!

PS: This means that you do not us this base for no purpose right now?! And did you handle this through Leica New Jersey or did you initially contact Leica Germany directly (if so; how... customer service?). And any cost...?

Regards,

Regards,

That is correct. The base has no purpose now. I handled it through Leica New Jersey and there was no cost except for the initial shipping to New Jersey. The rest was free and it took about 5 weeks. The only potential downside is that you can't use either the lens cap or the hood cap. Not a big deal since there is now a filter on the lens.
