I think the most interesting point with the new M is that Leica has to face a totally new competitive Landscape (they are no longer the only company selling a Full Frame Mirrorless camera.)and everbody expects big steps forward, while Leica most likely runs out of time and R&D Resources as they have to fix the CCD Sensor Problem (at the moment I assume they calculate a loss with every M-E they sell). The monochrome has been fixed, done. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a new M-E soon (probably an M 240 Sensor with EVF only?)

That leaves the new M open, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see the launch later than expected. On the other hand it is obviously the end of the M 240 Lifecycle. So not the best starting point, and I hope we don't get a compromise (I would at least prefer to wait a few months more).

When it comes to innovations I think one has to consider Leicas core competence, glass and the RF. So I doubt we get an AF System. Sensor is outsourced and I doubt that CMOSIS can outperform Sony on the MP race.

Improvements like GPS, Wifi, Sensor Cleaning, IBIS are all nice, but not really a game changer. So I would see the biggest opportunity in complementing the RF with an EVF like Fuji did. Probably with a moveable EVF based Rangefinder-Patch? A lot of us would welcome that and it would compensate the M's problem with wide and long lenses and would hence create a market potential for new lenses longer than 135mm. And that is an area where Leica can outperform all others..

This makes me re-think  that, one day or another, Leica ought to give a "kick/boost" to the Sinar brand they have acquired time ago... ;) (till now, they have only attached Leica S to the Sinar rail system)

(unless... the reliable source is from the Sport Optic dept, and they are announcing a new binocular... :p )

Hold the date on June 12 for 'live' presentations of the new-new in your boutique of choice. Official launch/announcement on 6/10, apparently. Quote from someone in the know today: it is (going to be) a killer machine, and nothing of the Panasonic-related new-product-sorts. Wouldn't say anything more. Me wondering about a potential new/upgraded color M asked: will the killer machine take M lenses? Answer: Nope.

Usual Luddites and Naysayers probably already drafting their responses  ;)

In order to be competitive and to reach a market share closer to 1% than now, they have to reach additional customers, not the same customers over again.

The only way to do this is image quality and lower cost.

A M Mount version of the Leica T perhaps? What is required is a lower cost non-RF version of the M with an EVF. The precision required by the RF pushes up the price a lot. Yet an RF model is still required, customers still want it.

I don’t think so.

Yep.

Not everything Leica does is related to the M, btw..

An M-mount version of the T makes no sense. There is an adapter already and it would be function-limited compared to the real T.
