Advertisement Posted April 5, 2022 Posted April 5, 2022 Hi cesc, Take a look here I love my M-A. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted April 5, 2022 Share #1162 Posted April 5, 2022 My equation was cheap to follow when films were less expensive: "Bracketting", in doubt, I double or triple when possible, most of time, the b&w film can handle some exposure "errors", or just take in the overexposure side if we can not take more frames. Not one metered in camera exposure can compete with the speed of "no meter" pre-setting. With practices and errors, confidence will come and errors are teachers to become better. Just an example, with 400ISO film, we are in interior, EV5, we need 1/30 F/2, two choices : 1 - go with the 1/30 F/2 or if we can lean ourself somewhere to be more stable, we can try 1/15 or 1/30 F2.8 for more dof 2 - take 1/60 F/2 F/2.8 then plan to process the film more like 1 000 ISO if other frames are fine at this "speed"

For my M-P, I would use the light meter since it's part of the camera. But for my M-A, I guess my exposure's, but if I really want to nail exposure for more serious work, I would just copy the settings from my digital camera that would be in my bag and over expose a bit. Same here. Mostly using sunny 16 or guessing based on experience. Now and then I use my (analog, no batteries!) light meter. It is a lot of fun. Actually it was what made me buy an M-A. I wanted to learn more about light and exposure without relying on the cameras metering. As film has quite some latitude the results in general are pretty good. Indoor exposure is a bit harder for me to guess right, but I am learning My M10-D sees quite a bit less use now (but I am still keeping it).

As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I bought my M-A almost two years ago with the intent to process the film myself and print in the darkroom. Covid got in the way and shut down the local public darkroom. It has finally reopened and I'm finally taking the class to learn how to use it. I've loved my M-A since I got it, but I love it so much more now that I can make prints without ever going near a computer.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
