wlaidlaw Posted July 2, 2014 Share #241 Posted July 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi - I am in the U.S. and working on a Mac with latest software. When I click the download link on the leica page for the updated firm an icon with the name of the firmware file establishes itself but the firmware doesn't download - tried many any times - I am able to download other files so no problem with my computer. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions? I am dying to try out the new firmware! Thanks Here is a different link from the German site http://de.leica-camera.com/content/download/118282/1179285/version/2/file/M_240-2.0.1.5.FW . I have checked and this downloads in Safari on my MBP. Wilson

MarkP Posted July 2, 2014 Share #242 Posted July 2, 2014 I had no problems via Mac. Try the link in the Leica AG website for M downloads. Mark
pop Posted July 2, 2014 Share #243 Posted July 2, 2014 an icon with the name of the firmware file establishes itself Sorry, I don't understand. What do you mean by "an icon establishing itself", and where would that be?
rirakuma Posted July 2, 2014 Share #244 Posted July 2, 2014 Hi guys, I've just updated my M with the new firmware and my frameline seems to be constantly set on the brightest setting. Is anyone else having this problem?
jaapv Posted July 2, 2014 Share #245 Posted July 2, 2014 I would say the trouble is people trying to open the file. The way to do this: 1.Format a card in the camera. 2.Put the card in the card reader, switch camera off. 3.Download the file from Leica's website. 4.Open the downloads folder. 5.Open the SD card. 6.Drag the file from the Downloads Folder into the SD Card Window, next to the DCIM folder. 7.Eject card properly. 8.Insert the card in the camera 9.Push Info, hold and switch the camera on. wlaidlaw Posted July 2, 2014 Share #247 Posted July 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, I've just updated my M with the new firmware and my frameline seems to be constantly set on the brightest setting. Is anyone else having this problem? There is no control for altering the image frames brightness, so yes everyone has what you have. Where did you think you could alter this? You can of course, alter the brightness of the LCD and EVF or set to automatic. Wilson
wlaidlaw Posted July 2, 2014 Share #248 Posted July 2, 2014 Has anyone checked to see if the PDF user manual has been updated to match the new facilities and operating modalities on the latest FW? Wilson
Jeffry Abt Posted July 2, 2014 Share #249 Posted July 2, 2014 The update was easy using a mac.- everything working perfectly!
Jeff S Posted July 2, 2014 Share #250 Posted July 2, 2014 Hi guys, I've just updated my M with the new firmware and my frameline seems to be constantly set on the brightest setting. Is anyone else having this problem? The new LED lit frame lines adapt to ambient light without user input, as the former frame lines did via window illumination. You now can, however, set them to either white to red. Jeff
bocaburger Posted July 2, 2014 Share #251 Posted July 2, 2014 Jeff I'm understanding him to say his are no longer adapting, that they're stuck at max.
farnz Posted July 2, 2014 Share #252 Posted July 2, 2014 ... You now can, however, set them to either white to red. (sic) You already could prior to the firmware update. Pete.
Jeff S Posted July 2, 2014 Share #253 Posted July 2, 2014 You already could prior to the firmware update. Of course….my comment referred to my prior sentence that referenced the pre-M240 frame line window illumination days (and, yes, should read 'or', not 'to'). Jeff S Posted July 2, 2014 Share #254 Posted July 2, 2014 Jeff I'm understanding him to say his are no longer adapting, that they're stuck at max. Could be, but his word choice 'set on the brightest setting' seems to suggest some confusion….we'll see if he checks back. Easy to check by just walking into a dark room; mine still adjust fine after update. Jeff
Peter H Posted July 2, 2014 Share #255 Posted July 2, 2014 Would some kind soul please tell me what I have to do to "Save the file FW_M240_2_0_0_12.FW at the top level of the card’s folder structure." I've downloaded the file and moved it onto the formatted memory card, but evidently that's not enough because the camera can't recognise anything on the card, telling me "file not found", and then locking up, requiring me to remove the battery to turn the camera off. Unfortunately, words like "top level of the card's folder structure" mean nothing to fools like me, so I'm stuck. I'm using a mac by the way, if that helps. Thank you. Jeff S Posted July 2, 2014 Share #256 Posted July 2, 2014 Peter, just drag the icon next to the update (ends in .upd) to the icon next to your card reader (device) in the Finder on your desktop. Jeff
Peter H Posted July 2, 2014 Share #257 Posted July 2, 2014 Thank you Jeff, much appreciated. So basically, I ignore the words "top level of the card's structure" and just move it in the normal way. I had been messing it up by trying to move it up in what I took to be the "structure". I was making it more complicated than it needed to be. Anyway thanks to your clear instructions, it worked! digitalfx Posted July 2, 2014 Share #259 Posted July 2, 2014 So basically, I ignore the words "top level of the card's structure" and just move it in the normal way. No. "top level of the card's structure" means exactly that. Do not put the file inside a folder, place it in the top level of the cards structure. Following Jeff's instructions accomplishes this. see attached image, on a Mac this is the top level. But don't try this on a Monochrom Welcome, dear visitor! drdannn Posted July 3, 2014 Share #260 Posted July 3, 2014 Just an observation about the ISO options in the new firmware: 1. Auto ISO in MANUAL mode works fantastic. Actually it is even better than it was in the m9! The exposures are right on. 2. Auto ISO in "A" (Aperture Priority) mode works better than it did before the firmware upgrade. Leica did a great job on this.
