I guess there is no change in the GPS for certain countries restrictions?

I have tried to download, but the file size is different for each download. It would have been nice if they really posted it in ZIP, instead of raw format...

Jacques, you have some good ideas.

I think that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me on the forum? :o So thankyou! And it is true: as an armchair designer I have designed a digital RF camera IN MY MIND:cool:- If I could have free rein and a team of experts to make this a reality: trust me - half the people on here would DROP their M's and grab my camera: IN ONE DECISIVE MOVEMENT !

p.s. that's why Leica tried to have me 'liquidated' several times and why my ideas are suppressed by the mainstream media (msm)...

it would be awesome if such dust algorithms could be used to subtract dust from a picture in camera? Like dark frame subtraction... optional setting of course...

What I want is a pixel remapping feature, so we wouldn't need to ship these cameras back to have it done. Yeah yeah, LR fixes them in DNGs...except not everyone shoots DNGs all the time, and when we do shoot jpegs it's usually because we don't have the time or desire to fiddle with conversion. Epson put a pixel remapping feature into a firmware update for the R-D1 ages ago, so it should be possible for Leica to do it.

I haven't updated yet, but can any of the beta testers say if there was work to speed up switch on and wake up times?

No, i did some tests and found out that startup and wakeup times are now slightly slower than they were previously. For example i've got 1.8 seconds in classic mode with the Sandisk 95 MB/s 64 GB card vs 1.7 seconds with the same card previously.

I find the green focus peaking quite handy. Works fine in many environments

just not leafy green ones? It is good to have different colour options now- I had real issues using the red colour in my local desert where just about everything except the sky is red...

In celebration of the new firmware I've just put the album Unhalfbricking on my player.

Luckily, the new FW, even in the early beta, did not brick any cameras. I'd say it is safe to play "Oh Happy Day." :)

First of all I want to say THANKS to the 50 LUF beta testers for their tireless efforts and dedication. Also many thanks to Leica for listening to the LUF members and producing a comprehensive firmware upgrade for their flagship camera and the consumers who own the M240! I was one of the people who posted criticism, thinking that Leica was ignoring the M in favor of their point and shoot business. So I want to be one of the first to say that I was mistaken and I am grateful for the support that Leica has shown in our favor. Dan

Nothing recundant there. I will not disable it, for one. Not that I am a video maker, far from it, but I do like to capture the occasional bit of action where a still would not do it justice.

Because there are quite a few photographers using the system that existed before. It is not a good idea to "fix" something for one group of users and to take it away from another group.

As for myself, I use both systems, depending on the way I am using the camera.

I don't get the scare quotes around "fix." No other pro camera implements Auto ISO the way the M240 did. It was broken. For what you're saying to be true there would have to exist some set of users that wanted to only use Auto ISO while they were in aperture priority and then wanted it to automatically default to the last manual ISO when they switched to manual. Why? That's like saying they should add a fifth tire when somebody gets a flat because some drivers might find the flat tire useful. If anyone like that existed, which I doubt, it would make more sense for them to switch to a manual ISO that worked for the light conditions instead of defaulting to "last selected." Meanwhile, all the people who use Auto ISO the normal way wouldn't have to reset the ISO mode every time we switched in and out of A. This new way requires the same amount of steps as the old way. Leica doesn't completely "get" digital.

Well, seeing Leica has provided options for both schools of thought I would say this discussion is rather superfluous.

I will only say that there is a place for manual=manual and for autoiso=the sole variable.

Both groups of users have explained the whys and wherefores often enough.

And you don't have to switch in menu all the time. Just make a user profile. I have an Auto-Iso one for long lenses and an full-manual one for short lenses where I want to drop into manual for exposure tweaking.

I see no reason for either side of the debate to call the other mistaken, because that kind of tunnelvision does not do justice to the possibility to use the camera in a personalized way, especially as I would be in the firing line in the middle ;).

How can I see the horizon when focusing with OVF?

Obviously you cannot. The rangefinder isn’t capable of showing an artificial horizon.

This thread has a feeling like Christmas morning. Would that more threads had this degree of positiveness. I get a mental image of a large living room with comfy couches, lots of people babbling excitedly to each other, smiling and pointing at things and all surrounded by torn Christmas paper.:)

Why not screw this to the camera?

First off, I agree with your first part and have no idea why Leica implemented the AUTO ISO the way they did on the M240. Because, of the fact that when you switched to Manual mode, the ISO menu displayed a greyed-out AUTO and not the previous ISO - it had to be a bug. But, let's move on and not go over all that here.

Secondly, I'm not sure what you mean when you say, "This new way requires the same amount of steps as the old (ver 1.2) way." Once you have set up how you want AUTO ISO to behave, it works like the M9 way, doesn't it?

Set the choice of, "AUTO ISO in M Mode" to "On." Works just like the M9. I am happy to have it back... and jaapv can continue to use the buggy version by selecting "Off.":D Win-Win!
