Is my sweat really THAT corrosive?

I bought my M on april 30st (3 days ago).

Yesterday I took it out for 3 hours. Because I had just openened the box and the strap wasn't on yet, I hand-held the camera most of the time.

Today I take a look at the back of the camera, and the INFO button looks like this :

I know that no paint can last forever, but ONE DAY???

I guess I'll wait untill it completely wears off and then decide if I want to re-paint it or not... What would you use then? I was thinking nail polish, but there are probably better options?

Cheers.

My info button went the same way after a few weeks and it was also the F that went first. I removed the rest of the black paint on the button with the corner of a match stick very easily, it is very soft and powdery. It looks fine all silver.

Just had a close look at mine (bought in Jan). It's perfectly intact. If it came off and bothered me I'd carefully apply some black acrylic paint using a toothpick or suchlike. I did that with white acrylic some years ago when the "F" of my Nikon F3 lost a bit and it has been perfect ever since.

I wonder if Leica has used different paint formations for the lettering on this button. I'm actually much more concerned about the lettering on the LHS black buttons coming off as they are not etched like the Info button is.

 ... my INFO button has never been black-filled... Or, at least I don't remember to have seen it black painted (4 months)... but mine is a chrome body... maybe is different ? Or have they changed ?

Mine was never paint filled either as far as I recall - on a black body..

Neither they appear in the official brochure (2013 version, still on the Net) , on which, by converse , the INFO writing IS in black....

The black paint on my 'info' button lettering has also partially worn of after 8 months of light use (I use my MM much more).

Using a wrist strap, this is where the pad of my thumb resides, so I thought that might be why. Pretty crap really though, after such a short time/light use .

Have you checked whether you have a permanent "F" on your right thumb? The F must have gone somewhere.:p

I've had my silver chrome M since June 2013 and the black paint on the INFO button is still completely intact. The button also has the arrows (not filled).

Curious indeed. Mine (silver 47015**) is intact as well. I don't chimp much though.

No matter how much you chimp, if paint on a 6.300 euro camera wears of within 3 days of use there is no excuse. I paid 20 euro for a plastic camera for my toddler. He is using it extensively in a way we would never treat our Leica and after 6 months it hasn't lost its paint, yet.

Leica paints have always been easy to remove as far as i recall. Just compare a Leica metal hood to a Zeiss one. A drop of acetone is enough on the former while the latter takes a couple of minutes with a toothbrush or same.
