I'm actually training my elder son so he can take a back up for me. But for how long he's willing to travel with me, that is the question. In light of your experience. I can try training both my sons and my wife. So in the near future, I can have up to three backups; then two, when the elder son starts to feel boring ; then one... So guys, no point to argue what to bring. Just take all your gears, and all your families...

AKW Posted April 16, 2021 Share #445 Posted April 16, 2021 Here is my traveling-light-combo, the other lens fits in my pocket and no camera bag is needed! (Although I have to admit that I really miss a 21mm lens. My only one at the moment is the Ultron 1,8/21 and it attracts too much attention in my shorts pocket...) Welcome, dear visitor! crony Posted April 17, 2021 Share #447 Posted April 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I faced this problem in 1988, when I bought my M6. I followed the advice in the LEITZ brochure : Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I chose 2.1. : Over the years, my interests have changed, and so has my equipment. I own and use 31 M mount lenses from 12mm to 135 now. For city travel I use the Elmarit 2,8/21 asph. or the ZEISS Distagon 4/18. For landscape (Swiss mountains) I use 35mm or 50. The same goes for vintage car meetings. 35mm when there is not much room, 50mm otherwise. I still have the lenses of my 1988 "Leica starter kit." The M6 is somewhere in a cupboard, having been replaced by M9s, the first came in 2010 ... 4
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Pixeleater Posted April 17, 2021 Share #448 Posted April 17, 2021 I’d take my M10R, 28 Lux and 50 Apo. Mostly landscape, architectural, portrait..
IkarusJohn Posted April 17, 2021 Share #449 Posted April 17, 2021 I had always looked at this issue from the perspective of the gear I have and how much I’m prepared to carry. Now, I think more carefully about where I’m going, and what I might need. Last trip to the Coromandel, SL with 24-90 which was perfect for almost all situations. Flexibility in focal length anf weather tolerant also great for walks slung over my upper body on a long strap. Previously to Wellington, M10-D with 28 and 50 M lenses. There’s something very fulfilling about the M system, where the SL can get a bit much with all its electronics. The smaller M also attracts less attention. Next trip, no overseas travel on the foreseeable horizon, so probably the South Island (Te Wai Pounamu). I will probably take the Monochrom and M-A (with Tri-X) to remove the distraction of colour. Reach will be an issue, so I’m thinking a 75 will join the 28-50 combo, with a 21 tagging along ...

My only changes to your kit is I use an M10 Monochrom instead of your M10R, and in the more rare occasisons I add my small silver 90 Macro F4 Elmar when reach is needed beyond the wonderful combination of the 28 Lux and 50 APO. The 28 1.4 and 50 APO I really believe are two of the most capable and amazing lenses available today when trying to keep the kit small yet very capable. Jared Posted August 31, 2022 Share #454 Posted August 31, 2022 Depends totally on the location and intent of the outing/trip. However, here are a few general trends: - One lens, I would probably grab the 35 APO for most events. - Two lenses would either be the 28mm Summaron with 50 APO or the 35 APO and 75 Summicron depending on the destination - For landscape, it would likely be the 21 SEM and 75 Noctilux - For people, probably the 35 APO and 75 APO - Night photography would be the 50 Nokton - Astrophotography would be the 21 SEM and possibly the 75 Noctilux, depending on the area of sky and whether or not I was bringing a tracking mount or just a tripod. So, totally depends on intent for the outing.

Like Ernst, my pick would be 35:1.4 v2 + 50:1.4 v3 For me, the 35 is always on the camera and the 50 comes out of the pocket/bag for street portraiture. I’ve considered trying 35 + 75 but then the lightness of this kit is compromised. Also I think these 2 lenses in partnership give a fantastic consistency across images , as can be seen in Evinke’s many posts in the relevant image threads on this forum. bravo ! I would miss a Summicron 28/2 v1 on an M7 0.58, but have to draw the line somewhere. -Thomas

I keep wondering whether to try 28 + 50 (or 35 + 75) but I think the 35 / 50 mentioned is definitely the right combo for me at this point and any alternatives are just GAS / curiosity . If I went 28 + 50 I'd have to bring a 35 to be on the camera 'most of the time' haha. So kind of pointless as then it's not 2 lenses anymore.
