It seems I lost the Firmware wishes thread so I'll put it here.

As there is a separate mode for a self timer shoot (2 and 12 seconds) it would be great if one could extend the menu with an option of taking multiple shots.

If I made everyone to stand in front of the camera and made them wait for me to show up, I wouldn't like to go back and say: Oh this one isn't good, Mary closed her eyes, everybody back.

A sub menu where one could be able to choose 1, 3 or 5 photos each taken with 1/2 seconds pause would be very useful in those occasions. I know this is not a crutial or highly important feature, but given the fact the camera has a separate mode set on the camera body, this mode should give more than three options off, 2s and 5s.

Please read the parentheses. they look like this (), but with words in the middle

No need to get cheeky. Presumably people will not find out how to unzip the new FW because it is not zipped. Read the instructions and the information about the download on Leica's site.

WARNING: Your settings will be changed during FW update. The most serious being that Leica believes that people who buy M is P&S-ers, and consequently change file format to jpeg instead of DNG. To bad I discovered this just now after a unique mini-consert shootout. My bad, but just a warning to you other.

Interesting. My settings remained the same, including all my in-camera profiles.

My settings remained the same, including all my in-camera profiles.

So did mine. I guess flyalf inadvertently hit the notorious Default Profile in the SET menu's User Profile setting and now falsely believes it was the firmware that re-set all his settings during the update process.

With the new firmware, what is the natural choice for preset in the LightRoom Develop module... Embedded or Adobe Standard?

There is not much to choose between them to be honest......

I would still (if you have the facility) make a dual illuminant profile with Colourchecker Passport or similar .... then at least you can be sure things are ok for you

I stand corrected. Sorry about false alarm. I just tried to update FW again, and cannot see that any settings was affected. Well, I have at least learned that there is something called Profiles ;). Cannot however for my bare life understand how I have hit Set- Profiles .

Seems like the Embedded profile renders blues much darker than does the Adobe Standard.

Also, the AWB seems cooler and rosier. I actually miss some of the warmth. However, in outdoor situations the AWB seems pretty good. Indoors it seems more likely to be fooled.

I could not agree more. It is among the first things I do when I get any new camera.

Do you fellows make a different profile for different lenses? Or one lens fits all?

Also, I made a test dual-illuminant profile, one source being daylight, the other fluorescent. For both shots the camera was set at ISO 200, Daylight WB. Does the WB setting make any difference?

BTW, the initial result is pretty good. I intend to make a profile using Daylight and Tungsten and will likely use that one.

One by-product, and an unwelcome one, is that the camera locks completely far more often (twice this lunch time whilst photographing students in a school) and requires me to pop the battery out momentarily.

Really unhelpful and unimpressive.

In S mode, it's still utterly useless, so everything is shot in C mode, meaning I get duplicates of most everything, filling my cards. Unimpressive.

My settings all remained exactly as before.

Had the same problem, then changed sd card, problem gone!

Please allow us to disagree.

When I set the camera to Automatic, I expect it to set the exposure correctly following my preferences where possible. When that is not possible then it will change the exposure time to get a well exposed picture and will display the changed shutter setting in the finder.

This to me is well defined, logical, and the way I want it.

Manuals? They are habitually ill-written even in the original language and then further desensed (made less sensible) by translators - machine or human.

Exactly! Agreed 100%

And why Leica can't get this right is beyond me. Reputedly the M 240 behavior was to make some people happy. This makes no sense to me as the current behavior is …

If I set the camera to auto-ISO and to a speed of 1/125 and an f stop of 1/8 then I expect the camera will try to match that by adjusting the ISO. Not random whatever, wish on the moon, hello Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, Ach Sprach Zarathustra, 10 laps on the Nurbergring after Oktoberfest, or happy Hobbit hop.

Instead, we need to get back to something logical like with the M9.

The Leica folk can move slow but I know enough about coding to know this is a couple of days of work max. Probably an hour or two if the programmer knows what he or she is doing and the code is chop suey.

Problem is that they did it differently from the M9 and it was probably more like a bug because, of the way the "Auto ISO" text stays on when you move to a set shutter speed. But, even though the display says "Auto ISO" the actual ISO is not what is displayed (Auto ISO), but rather the last ISO set. So, it is either a bug or they screwed up on the displayed text.

Anyway, a very vocal minority on the forum came out and stated that they liked it this way, and it was not a bug. Leica saved face and said they would please both groups in the next update. Most don't understand the subtitles of why it is wrong the way it is and makes no logical sense. But, the louder voice wins. Now we will have to deal with more menu confusion of 2 choices. Sheesh.

Sounds like the post-modern approach to software design and customer relations. Oh, where is Teutonic rigor when you need it? "Made in Germany," indeed.
