colonel Posted January 20, 2015 Share #4781 Posted January 20, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I see that as a positive — I like incremental improvements. Keep'em coming! Not every camera needs to be a big redesign. He seems to want bigger/more improvements coming at less frequent intervals. Just skip a generation of cameras and you've got that. I do agree that a battery charger should be included. That is a strange omission. Actually it's true a battery charger should be included It is included in the A7S, just the other two models don't get it However it is £60 in a kit with a free battery This obscures the big advantage with Sony's is they can be charged from any USB cable. This is brilliant and I don't know why other manufacturers don't do this. I can plug it in at my desk at work and it's charged in a few hours. I never have to take a charger to work. Steve P Posted January 20, 2015 Share #4782 Posted January 20, 2015 My favorite cameras are, in no particular order, M9, D200, D3, D800E, NEX-5N/7, A7R, and E-M5/1. A-HA! So you hate both Canon AND Pentax? I knew there was something fishy about you!

gyoung Posted January 20, 2015 Share #4785 Posted January 20, 2015 Well I for one want to hear of experience with M lenses (and R) on this forum, where members are generally well informed and 'sensible'. Its just as acceptable to me to use these lenses on a Sony as a voigtlander or konica, especially as the Sonys give another way of using the lenses, whereas the voigtlander amd konicas for example offered only a cheaper and second rate alternative to an M. Why single out the Sonys for official disapproval. Gerry
jankap Posted January 20, 2015 Share #4786 Posted January 20, 2015 I follow this thread with interest. I have some - not many - Leica lenses, collected in 50 years. Also the lenses -, T - , R - threads, as well as the buy and sell department get my attention. The combination of different view points cannot be found elsewhere, I believe. OK, my main focus is lenses. But I would regret, if I had to say goodbye to this forum. Jan
LUF Admin Posted January 21, 2015 Share #4787 Posted January 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't take me wrong - of course you are all welcome here. And discussing the Sony A7 here is also OK. I only wanted to point out that you don't have to discuss here and: That I (yes the other forum is also run bey me) offer another forum especially on Sony Alpha. Where you are welcome too. The good news: You don't have to decide - you can use both Andreas
jedi996sps Posted January 22, 2015 Share #4788 Posted January 22, 2015 Sharing this link. Apologies if it has already been posted before. Thin Filter A7 Conversion Service for Legacy 35mm Lenses | Kolari Vision Infrared Would be interested to hear if anyone on here has or is considering the conversion, which by all accounts, would make the M wide angle lenses usable on the A7. If it was available in the UK, i would consider it.

Son of Helm Posted February 1, 2015 Share #4791 Posted February 1, 2015 Mr. Helm, Since you will have a A7 II in hand soon, if you have Leica M 21/2.8 ASPH, M24/2.8 ASPH, or M28/2.8 pre APHS, would you please you send me via Dropbox some images (OOC jpeg and Raw) at f8 done by these lenses. Thanks a lot. Thomas Chen Hi again. Long delay, a got my A7II only a week after New Year, and was hospitalized the following week. Weather has been bad here, but today I managed some preliminary test, when the sun came out for 10 minutes. My M2.8/24 ASPH on the A7II shows bad smearing on aperture 4, but at aperture 8 the results are nice enough: You have to be very critical to dismiss the AII result at this aperture. I did prints in A4 to compare with my M240, and the M240 results on ap 4 are near to identical to the ap 8, except for the last few mm (of the sensor). Indeed Erwin Puts once wrote that this lens has its peak performance at aperture 4, unless you need crisp details at the farthest corners. However I havent quite found myself yet, so I dont want to publish my blunders. We will have to wait for better weather and a more relaxed day. Verdict so far: as the IBIS of the A7II allows you to shoot at ap 8 handheld, the M2.8/24 could be a usefull companion for many applications.

Son of Helm Posted February 11, 2015 Share #4793 Posted February 11, 2015 I have the M24/2.8 ASPH and hope to come back when the A7II arrives. I contemplate two modes of using my gear: For wide- and normal lenses, even the M90/2.0 ASPH, my beloved M240 will be my choice, for dedicated tele-work (notably with my R 3.4/180 ) I see the A7II as a promising alternative. I am not a pixel peeper, if my gear produces prints in A3+ which are satisfactory for the given application, I am satisfied. Now, as k-hawinkler found the WATE working OK, it may be an added bonus to have the possibility of using the M24/2.8 just in case. We will see. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/README.pdf https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00032.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00032.ARW https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00034.ARW https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00034.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00036.ARW https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00036.JPG https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00037.ARW https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/DSC00037.JPG Have fun
fore Posted February 11, 2015 Share #4794 Posted February 11, 2015 Very impressive improvements on those WA lenses now, well worth the upgrade. But for me, no matter how great the resolution is corner to corner, I can't for the life of me get over the crappy colors. Ken's comparison shots of Canon 5DMKIII, 240 and A7 of those palm trees. Just horrible. Canon 5D Mk III vs. Sony A7 vs. LEICA M typ 240 Image
jaapv Posted February 12, 2015 Share #4795 Posted February 12, 2015 I would not make too much of the colour of these shots. KR's taste in colour processing in general is ummmm...idiosyncratic...

Thomas Chen Posted February 12, 2015 Share #4797 Posted February 12, 2015 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3872343/sony24-OOC/README.pdf Have fun Dear Mr. Helm, Thank you very much for your images, they are really helpful. When I used a M 24/2.8 ASPH on the A7R, serious smear ingand edge color shift were apparently appreciable. Your images demonstrate that M 24/2.8 ASPH is useful on A7II at f5.6 and f8 or above, at least, from my own viewpoint. Now I use the WATE 16-18-21 to take UWA pictures and am happy with the outcomes. However, I'm still curious to know the fact how the M21/2.8 ASPH (my favorite one) works on A7II. I'll appreciate if somebody here may offer the opportunity for me to find it out. Many Thanks and Best Regards, Thomas Chen

I would've thought that he used images with no PP at all for this comparison. Idiosyncrasies have no place in a A/B/C comparison. Perhaps I'll email him and ask directly. Perhaps I'll email him and ask directly. IIRC he states SOC JPEG with Auto WB. Unfortunately only the Canon looked any good, however one must have realistic expectations from Sony with any adapted lens - they can't do the same in camera corrections that Leica does. You have to do that yourself in post processing.
