I look forward to your findings with the new adapter to help me decide if I want to now spend even more money on the version 3. :(

Just found V3 on ebay.

Rich,

I find that M 28/2.8 pre ASPH (ver. iV) is less pestered by vigentting, color shift and.... than the M28 Corn.

Karl,

For the price (one-third of M240), the A7 and A7R are an interesting alternative and this may be a good back-up camera,

especially mounted with Leica lenses. But I saw images with Zeiss lens who have "rendering" as good as Leica

For pictures of surgery in the operating room, I currently use the M8 or M9 , but it does not rise enough in Isos for some

images. I'll buy A7 or A7R for my professional use.

Regards

Henry

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 G (2012 model) at F1.8 on Sony A7R:

It was also on my D800E already one of the sharpest lenses and I will keep it for the A7R as long as Sony/Zeiss do not provide something better.

Do you get AF with the Nikon lenses? Which adapter do you use?

For an amateur like me (I take picures for fun and have no time for pixel peeping) the A7 with the Leica Summicron-M 50mm is a great camera to own. Really like to use manual focus lenses with it, the EVF works great.

I find the A7 to be a great companion to my M8 :)

Thanks Henry. I agree with your sentiments.

I have my M9, D800E, and now A7R, as well as a number of quality lenses.

But I must say the ZEISS Otus 55/1.4 is very tempting.

Good idea. Autofocus will be quite useful for that application too. It allows for most of the camera to be cling foil-wrapped as an infection barrier.

Jaap, yes especially infections in the operating room, it is our constant fear

I'll have to sterilize my A7 :D

Here are 5 images taken with my A7r that I took yesterday late afternoon, December 7 during and after Magic Hour at Lock Ridge Park, Alburtis PA. The forum will not let me upload images as large as I would like. You can look at my posting at FM:

If you prefer, you can look at the jpgs below; the first 4 images were taken with my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens (about f5.6 or f8) and the last one was taken with my Leica R 50mm f2 Summicron (about f8)

We haven't seen much BW output from the camera, but these are among the finest. Especially like the last one. Such good acuity. Thanks. - John

I have never thought about this. I have been using my Canon 1dsMk2 with a macro lens for years to document my cases, especially, the ones I want to write an article on. This camera may be a great light-weight replacement. I don't know how it would look and balance with a ring flash and control module???

Do you know the ISO at which the city image was shot. Curious because the sky is quite grainy.

Thanks!

It is shot at ISO 100. You can find all the EXIF info via Flickr.

I have read it on here, in this thread, and on a couple other places, flickr etc from people who have bought and been using it too.

I've found some samples to be hit and miss, it's hard to tell wether it's lens or not. Also some colour which seems to be quite false looking. But I don't know if it's user error or camera "feature". It makes sense, if the colour needs work that people fiddle with it and don't get it quite right.

There is no absolute Red/Green buy light for the A7®.

From all the examples and reviews, my personal conclusions are:

- I am not interested in A7, only A7r. When I need AF, it must be excellent; so I get the big heavy Canon bag.

- Odd color casts (i.e. entire frame, not color-vignetting from ray angle) will be fixed with proper sensor profiles as soon as raw-processing apps are updated.

- A7r has issues with ray angles, and this prevents generic use of some lenses, depending on lens design. Leica-M compact lenses are especially problematic for this reason.

- I shoot raw, and don't care about correcting color vignetting issues in post. I only care about smearing (not fixable in post).

- Some M wides, are usable provided they are stopped down to f/8. Larger apertures will cause smearing. Results stopped down are comparable to the M in the corners, in other words the extra MP are only useful in the center of the image. Then again, no generalization can be made, as this is really lens dependent. Lens adapters may also make the difference. No wonder we are seeing lots of inconsistent samples. Need to test with my lenses/adapters.

- I will buy the A7r, mainly to use Noctilux, CV Nokton 35 f/1.2 and my favorite compact tele, the APO Telyt-R 180 (hoping it will outresolve the sensor after so many years).

- A CV 21/1.8 is in my shopping cart. Will check if my SEM 21 is really hopeless before clicking on "Confirm Order", as I can't justify owning both.

- I may miss a mid-tele. Thinking about a used Leica-M 90/2.8. So beautifully compact.

- I am keeping the M for now, and see if I can live with the A7r only.

P.S. Thanks everyone for samples and reviews.

I have the a7 on order. It should be here tomorrow... I also have a novoflex m-adapter inbound that should be here in another week. Which brings me to my question that I am hoping SOMEONE can help me with.

Has anyone seen any samples out of the a7 or a7r from a pre-asph 35mm Summicron? Anyone at all? I have a version 3 and am really curious as to how the two work for each other.
