Autumn snow

The first snow of the season --I had to cut short my hike about here because I was so stupid to start without ice pitons--a nice trip anyway. And amazing views.

I´ve been there a long time ago ( actually in the first year after the fascist regime under Salazar  was overthrown in the "carnation revolution" )  What is very vivid in my mind are the fishermen of this part of the coast and their incredible courage braving these huge waves with their tiny boats sans engine... I sat there for days just watching.

That's a very authentic portrait, very good, although I don't approve of the smoking... 😁  ( not now, but I smoked myself then. I remember trading a pack of cigarettes for a shopper full of just caught sardines with one of these guys. So: grill party on the beach !

Very nice shot, contrelamontre. Those were the days when we still had snow...

Thank you sincerely, Klaus. I agree with you about smoking, both my parents having died of lung cancer. Back in 1988 they were still hauling those beautifully shaped and painted boats out of the ocean and onto the beach - I wonder if they do now? I suspect that maybe it's just done for the tourists now. And, yes, those sardines are something else with some nice local beer and/or wine!

Excellent shot Phil. Makes my eyes hunt around for perspective to get a feel for the size of whatever it is they're seeing. What's the shadow in the foreground? Looks like a motorcycle.

Thank you so much Philip. The dark shape is some bluestone blocks that had tumbled into the water from the structure that I suppose used to support the jetty, or whatever it is the pylons were there for.

It is funny how a photograph can sometimes bring literature to mind: Victor Hugo's Toilers of the Sea....."He was a man of unquestionable integrity; to doubt him was to bring suspicion on yourself." :)

Otto, a very convincing result.     I would like to try this myself....  If its possible, could you post the details of the procedure or -- if it´s documented somewhere--a link ?

Thank you !
