Â The use of the M designation is meaningless here, it's just a way of showing that the camera will sit between the X2 and the M in their range, most probably in terms of price more than anything. Â The slightly opened box is just a graphic, it's not 'real' - you're not looking at the actual camera inside its actual box, so it won't be to scale/proportion. Â I do enjoy these threads though, all the speculation, wishful thinking, rather like children wishing for Santa to bring them a pony or real rocket ship, but they get a doll or toy car like everyone else. When the M lens is mounted on the M9, the word LEICA appears at the 1 o'clock position. So could this be a fixed lens camera? Hmm, maybe not. A picture of the Summilux on the M shows LEICA at 12 o'clock. Then again, the Mini M picture is just an illustration, so who knows?! Â What's needed is that very clever pixel interpolation software that allows crime-fighters and secret agents to read number plates from several miles away so we could read what else the lens says. Â Magenta issues on the M8, ISO performance on the M9, poor focus peaking and EVF quality on the M, sloppy AF on the X1/X2 -- every digital model has shown a real lack of attention to key digital issues (the aesthetics on the other hand are unquestionable!) Â So I have very low expectations for the Mini M. They're not going to be able to compete with Fuji and Sony in terms of technical creativity. This won't be an RX1 killer or even an X Pro 1 killer. Imagine the most conservative step forward. Either an X2 type with a zoom but no viewfinder OR a Digilux or CL type fixed lens with a viewfinder. Neither will have a cutting edge sensor, will almost certainly cost upwards of $4,000, and won't be available for ages. Â All this leads me to say: I don't understand the Leica madness for opening stores everywhere on earth when most people can't afford or don't want their signature products. And those that do want them, can't find them! Â This isn't a rant! I love Leica, including the M9, which I own. I love the stores too (even though they don't make business sense)! And I'm excited to see a Mini M, but I just don't see how Leica can keep doing well in the long run when they don't do enough technically with the M line. Â So well put, I couldn't agree more to all the points. Leica do not yet seem to have understood the importance of having genuine professional scrutiny of the digital side of their products. It still remains amateurish and clunky - M live view implementation is primitive, so I too doubt that they will take anything more than the most conservative of steps. All logic points to bringing out a cutting edge EVF FF product and taking a march on the opposition, which would raise lens sales and future-proof the business for a few years. Unfortunately, leica conservatism probably means they will produce yet another me-too APS camera with clunky digital implementation, at a premium price, making the Fuji and Sony products look even better than they really are. Â How would you like it if the focal length in the M Mini was the equivallent of a 50mm lens? To go with a Nikon A model 18mm (=28mm on FF) ? And if the AF was REALLY fast, I'd be ready to accept the lens wearing out from the permanent whizz-in&out.
