Unless Leica is not making any money on the lens, I doubt they would discontinue production. Everyone is sold before it leaves Solms. This lens will be legend, head line news be it the best little lens, the flaring and veiling lens, the impossible to get lens. If you ever just get the chance to pick one up, you will instantly start thinking about what can I sell to buy this......! The weight difference is considerable to my touch between these two small lenses. I guess its the density of the APO 50 that impresses me, other than the image quality and rendering. I had been waiting for one from another dealer and just happened to go by my local Leica dealer. In a conversation, they had one in the back and it had been there for 6 weeks or more. I said is it sold and can I look at it. Well after I held it, I put a deposit on it and came back the next week and picked it up. It was just by luck that I got mine. That was back in July. Disappointing situation. Lack of communication = lack of consideration for the customer! I think it's time to be ringing around the dealers. Some people are now getting them with almost no delay. I wonder if after figuring out the "problem" they are now starting to manufacture more new ones or starting very soon. If the QC dept is involved it will not be quick, at least I hope so, Do it right and take your time so the lens never has to go back for lack of QC.
