Earlier on this thread I read about people printing 13X19 from the D2. I decided to give it a go. I never intended to print size A3 with this camera when I purchased it but I just printed this image 10.5X15 on A3 and it took my breath away. Mind you this was shot on JPEG mode and on "A." This camera has got to be the best Leica value I've come across. I got it used for $600.00. Leica made a major tactical mistake when it opted not to develop this camera further!!!

Just purchased a D2 from a fellow forum member for my father (thanks Stephen:)).

But after reading through this entire thread I think I'm gonna get another for myself. Very impressive folks. And Wilfredo, you are probably correct...what a deal these cameras are.

Fine portrait & I think you're exactly right on all points. As it is, the Digilux 2 seems a sort of latter day, digital CL: such a value that for many it threatens to vitiate the rest of the line, at least & until one decides to lay down exponentially more cash . . .

I'm so taken by this camera that I will probably be on the look-out for a second minty D2. I think you will be very pleased with it when you get it and you will have a hard time putting it down, it is a handy tool. I'm sure your dad will enjoy his. I especially like it for portrait shots that convey character. The skin tones don't have that plastic look that many digitals still have. The lens on this camera is a definite winner. Even though the lens was made by Panasonic, it has the Leica stamp.

Thank you all for the comments on the portrait, I couldn't ask more from the print it generated.

Hug me Mom

Saw this cute kid cuddle with her mom, reminded me of my self when i was still a kid.

I was only 2 feet away from them, but thanks to D2 Silent Shutter they don't seem to feel my presence taking picture of them. Also the D2 rangefinder design makes me able to communicate with my smile and my free left eye with the cute kid.

I am not sure this photo belongs in the esteemed thread (especially because the colors lost quite a bit of "vitality" in the compression); but of all the pictures I've taken with the Digilux 2, this is one that I believe best exemplifies the "distinctive look" of this camera.

PS This was not a set up shot. This basket of local produce was at the entrance of our town library. I thought that the fading afternoon light (and shadows) would make for a good picture, but I was still surprised at how well the D2 captured - and brought to life - the image.

Hi to everybody,

This is my first post on this forum.

6 mths ago I didn't know what a Rangefinder was. I was intrigued by the concept of the M9 and basically fell in love with the camera. In my leisure I would browse and dreeaamm.

I don't know how it happened but a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon Thorstens site and ended up reading his musings on the D2. I was hooked. The image quality above all else stood out.. I reread the Sean Read, the Luminous Landscape guy and JT on this site.

I am now the proud owner of a Leica Digilux 2.

Thanks to all of you on this forum.

This thread contains fantastic shots.

Here's one taken a week or so ago, while out to dinner with my son.

The D2 is completely silent, unobtrusive.

ISO 100, 1/3 sec @ F/2.2, converted in SilverEfex.
