Since there are a few second mentions, the MS Optical Perar 35/3.5 spends a fair amount of time on my camera. Especially handy for active use or days when light weight is required do to health issues. Highly recommended.
Advertisement Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Hi Mr. Thompson, Take a look here Favorite non leica lens for leica M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
exile Posted September 6, 2012 Share #62 Â Posted September 6, 2012 Most gorgeous images with a unique fingerprint: CV 35 /1.2. Ultimate image quality in a non-Leica lens at that focal length: ZM 21/2.8 Fast and tiny lens compared to any Leica offering in the normal focal length: Juptier 3 50/1.5 sonnar (1953) Â Each of these three lenses offer something that Leica either does not offer (a 200g 50/1.5), or only offers at a much much much more expensive price tag (the 35 and 21mm). Â But the best overall compromise between size, weight, image quality, speed, fast focusing, flare resistance, and useful focal length: minolta rokkor 40/2 CLE. My most used lens. For good reason. Many people say it is equivalent in all respects to the 35 'cron ver IV - so my "favourite non-Leica lens for M" is actually the lens I own that most closely matches an all time classic Leica M lens That probably says it all.... rulnacco Posted September 6, 2012 Share #63 Â Posted September 6, 2012 I've not had the opportunity to try a lot of non-Leica lenses on my two M film bodies, but I'm realty liking my 40 M-Rokkor (CLE version). It's one sweet, sharp little gem.
urs0polar Posted October 14, 2012 Share #64 Â Posted October 14, 2012 I'm surprised no one has mentioned the ZM 28/2.8 yet (unless I missed it). It's a great modern lens, very little distortion, and great colors. Â A lot of people are saying ZM 50/1.5 Sonnar. I have a Summarit 50/1.5 that is awesome -- is the Sonnar a clone of the Summarit, or some other lens? (Just curious)

lct Posted October 14, 2012 Share #66 Â Posted October 14, 2012 The Summarit is from 1949 and the Sonnar from the Thirties. See Marco Cavina.

Thanks for the link, that's very informative.  But Marco's page says that the Summarit is the same design as the Xenon from 1936?

urs0polar Posted October 14, 2012 Share #71  Posted October 14, 2012 The old Summarit is the same optical design as the Xenon but with coating.  So the C-Sonnar 50/1.5 seems very similar indeed, though of course it's coatings are better, it's newer, and it's a different design  I checked out some more pics on flickr; seems to have similar uses. Thanks!

Alan, I am a late convert to the Hex UC 35/2 LTM.  There are a few photographic items I got late, that I wish, I knew earlier about their magic. Among the Noctilux f1 the Hex UC 35/2 LTM is one of those items - one of the very best 35mm lenses ever in my opinion!

I read different opinions online about distance to film/sensor and resulting focusing problems. Are all Hexars M or M39 mount? Â Never had any focusing problems with the Hex M's or LTM's on my M6 (haven't used them on a digital M though). The real sleepers in my kit are the Hex 50/2.4 and the CV 50/2. I really think these lenses are underrated viz a viz something like the modern Leica 50 Elmar and of course are far cheaper.
