As for third party lenses, they seem to be improved, but that is not Leica's primary concern, is it?
Advertisement Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Hi jaapv, Take a look here The old 1.162 firmware (changed title). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
denoir Posted June 16, 2011 Share #122 Posted June 16, 2011 Well, I think this is about as much we can hope for with the existing system. This problem exists because of a fundamental design flaw in the software - one I doubt they'll fix with a firmware update. The basic problem is that they do the corrections in-camera on the RAW file. First of all RAW files should not be modified with lens corrections. The lens corrections should be saved as metadata or in an external file and applied in postprocessing. Furthermore the M9 isn't powerful enough to do the correction properly with a reasonable speed. Hence the approximate correction. Getting a perfect correction is in principle no problem - as demonstrated by CornerFix and LCC profiles in C1. I really hope this is something they'll address in the next digital M. mjh Posted June 16, 2011 Share #123 Posted June 16, 2011 The basic problem is that they do the corrections in-camera on the RAW file. That’s the proper way to do it. Not even the latest version of the DNG specification supports storing the corrections to be applied in the meta data.
mjh Posted June 16, 2011 Share #124 Posted June 16, 2011 As for third party lenses, they seem to be improved, but that is not Leica's primary concern, is it? Isn’t it quite simple? Leica is providing a set of calibrations for their own lenses. If you find some Leica lens behaving sufficiently similar to your non-Leica lens (with respect to the IFS) then you can use the code of the former and hope for the best. But as there is no calibration specifically for that third-party lens, the correction will not be up to the same standard (except incidentally). Haydenjr Posted June 16, 2011 Share #125 Posted June 16, 2011 Nothing about the internals or electronics of the Titanium M9 is different to the regular M9, other than the LED-illuminated rangefinder. The update will work in exactly the same way. Thank you for you response. I tried updating the firmware of the M9 Titan (current is 1.150) but it doesn't response like the normal M9 wherein I just insert the SD card and it asked me if I want to update or not. (I have both M9's so I was able to compare) Is there a special procedure for the Titan?

01af Posted June 16, 2011 Share #130 Posted June 16, 2011 The M9 Titan has its own firmware version so it's not safe to assume the latest firmware for the M9 will also fit the M9 Titan. It may, or it may not. Ask Leica Customer Service for advice.
Haydenjr Posted June 16, 2011 Share #131 Posted June 16, 2011 The M9 Titan has its own firmware version so it's not safe to assume the latest firmware for the M9 will also fit the M9 Titan. It may, or it may not. Ask Leica Customer Service for advice. You're correct. Apparently, acctg to Leica Support, the titan does have a different firmware and right now there's no update available yet.
Haydenjr Posted June 16, 2011 Share #132 Posted June 16, 2011 Suggest send CEO perfurmed letter... Noel There's a rumor that the lens makers in Leica made a mass resignation because of something a new head apparently said that they didn't like. Heard it when I was in Samy's U.S.

Overgaard Posted June 16, 2011 Share #134 Posted June 16, 2011 Uh, not much hope for the "current" 32-year old version of the 21/3.4. Not that it makes much difference, but no 2 is the old software, the first the new. Manual coding as WATE 15mm Welcome, dear visitor! Olsen Posted June 16, 2011 Share #135 Posted June 16, 2011 Overgaard, After 30 years it is about time to 'call it a day' for a lens. What about buying anew one? I can strongly reccommend a WATE. An awesome tool on a M9.
kanuck Posted June 16, 2011 Share #136 Posted June 16, 2011 What a great day thanks Leica! So it looks like the Voigt 15mm should be labeled as 21mm for best results then? I'm not positive just going by what others have tested and said so far. I was able to download and put on the M9 with no problems. Can't wait to shoot tonight. asmith Posted June 16, 2011 Share #139 Posted June 16, 2011 Ive downloaded it and it has unzipped itself, but I have found no way to move it to the SD card. Whatever I try, I get a message that it cannot be opened, although I have not tried to do that. I have a new Mac Book Pro and never had any problem with my previous Windows machine. I've been using the SD slot. Alwyn
jaapv Posted June 16, 2011 Share #140 Posted June 16, 2011 Drag the .upd file on the desktop (not really neccessary, but practical) Format the SD card in the M9 Put the SD card in the card reader An alias of the card will appear on the desktop. Drag and drop the .upd file onto the alias. Drag the card alias onto the eject button on the righthand side of the bar to safe-eject it. Pop the card into the camera, wait three secs etc.
