chkphoto Posted April 15, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry for the poor quality cellphone images. Is this a copy, or a real Mii with the paint scrub off? It is brass, top, bottom and lens. SN# on body is 3795 which seems low. Thanks in advance for any help. chk

Michael Hiles Posted April 15, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2011 I'm no expert, but if this is a Leica I'll eat my Summar.

prunelle Posted April 15, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 15, 2011 You should show it to a Leica repair specialist. They'll be able to tell you about it.
250swb Posted April 15, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 15, 2011 As others have sort of implied chk its a fake. However thank you for posting, I enjoyed looking through the images on your web site, very good. Steve

The funniest point is the engraving on the lens : Leitz Ernst instead of Ernst Leitz !
luigi bertolotti Posted April 15, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 15, 2011 It's so ugly that I'd define it "the fake of a Russian FED fake Leica"...
chkphoto Posted April 15, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted April 15, 2011 Thanks all for the replies. It's neighbor's camera that he found in a flea market (red flag) in Heidelberg Ger , where he's from some years ago. I told him when I saw it that it was probably fake but wanted to get the experts from this forum to confirm. Thanks again and Thank you Steve for the nice compliment. diser Posted April 15, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 15, 2011 Definitely FED/Zorki.
greyelm Posted April 15, 2011 Share #11 Posted April 15, 2011 It's a Zorki 1d showing the characteristic black trim which extends to surround the lens mount. If the lens were removed it will have a triangular rf cam as opposed to the round Leica type. The viewfinder bezel on the front of the Zorki blends into the top plate whereas the Leica is discreet. Finally a common giveaway is that the four screws on the front are bare metal but would be black if it were a Leica. I think the fake engraving on the lens says Leitz Elmar even though it is obviously an Industar-22.
farnz Posted April 16, 2011 Share #12 Posted April 16, 2011 Not the slightest doubt : It's an ugly fake based on a Russian (sorry : Soviet) camera. The funniest point is the engraving on the lens : Leitz Ernst instead of Ernst Leitz ! Actually it says "Leitz Elmar":o but I agree it's definitely a copy. The aperture is adjusted using the brass(?) ring in the centre of the lens instead of the true Elmar's metal tang. The camera's definition and the angles on the top deck are all wrong too. Pete. earleygallery Posted April 17, 2011 Share #13 Posted April 17, 2011 It's a genuine fake, worth about as much as a couple of bottles of non vintage champagne but not as interesting. Stick a film through it though, it might give acceptable results if the shutter works and the lens is ok.
