. The only niggle is that the shutter speed dial doesn't QUITE match up with the arrow; don't suppose anyone knows if this is an easy fix to remove and swivel round?

Hi, this is,pretty easy to fix. Remove the ring which is on the speed dial, take 1mm flat screwdriver and loosen 3 screws on the speed dial. Turn it let for right so that arrow match selected speed, fasten screws. The additional ring on the speed dial is for synchronization for flash, I suppose.

Excellent find! It appears this camera will provide years of enjoyment and also open the path to learning the fascinating history of your camera and Leica cameras, lenses, etc., and in general from the many resources available.

Interesting attachment to the shutter speed dial by the way, that's something I've never seen before.

Check out this link, especially the notes at the bottom of the page listing the conversion options which it appears your camera is the result of. Good luck, have fun and looking forward to seeing some posted photos! Regards, Allan

21811 34550 Leica I (Elmar) 7th version from 31600 1928 12740

The above is taken from the link, is does not tally with other info that I have seen. I think the date should be 1930

I presume one of the reasons it might have been converted, would have been to allow it to use standard LTM rather than matched lenses.

I looked at a 1929 Leica 1 some time ago but in the end, went for a 1931 1© Standard, due to its ability to use the various other standard LTM lenses I have.

Hello

I'm new in the forum but I follow some threads for some time.

I´m the prowd owner of this IIIf from 1952, with Elmar 50mm 3.5 Red Dial(?) unknown year.

In the pictures the IIIf is shown with a Capital japanese meter from the fifties.

First post in this thread - hello!

Although I have had several different models over the years, my current LTM line-up is:-

a black II that started life as a 1930 model1 - converted (and standardised) by the factory along with its original lens, an 11 o'clock 50mm Elmar, plus

a 1939 IIIc with a 1949 Summitar - lovely combo, the slow speeds need a service but capable of fantastic results.

I have a minty 1936 uncoated Summar that comes out to play as well - a lovely lens, but tends to flare, even after a cla by Peter at CRR

My biggest LTM regret is selling a non-stamped IIIc-K a few years back. Absolutely cracking camera, with its original Summitar, and even rarer than a K.............

Hi John

Nice to see you also at this forum! Every time I use my Leica II I am grateful for your kind vulcanite gift last year; the repair went really well and the camera looks virtually undamaged.

My Leica II also began as a Leica I, but in 1931. It's a wonderful camera. A few years ago my M cameras were in for service and I happily used the II over the holidays with the Summitar. A great combination.

All the best

Philip

Hi Philip,

Thanks for the welcome - I'm looking forward to getting some time with my analogue cameras - particularly the Leicas.

I'm glad your repair held up OK - I still have a few pieces of vulcanite left, but I don't think I have any more curved pieces. I suppose boiling water immersion might allow a curve to be formed in a piece if one was desperate ;)

I own several LTM cameras. One of my favorites is a IIIA that looks new, works wonderfully well and is held by an old photographer that still works pretty good!

Perhaps I'm goofy but I don't seem to be challenged by loading the film.

Now if I could say the same about the photographs I make you'd be reading a lie as I'm always examining my photographs determining how I could do better the next time.

That's one reason out of many why I truly enjoy making photographs.

Hi folks, I am new here, and in my amateur photography I mostly use Leica II and III cameras, I have 7 working bodies and various lenses, from 1932 to 1950. I also happen to have 1954 Leica M3 with quite a low serial number. I think the time has come for getting some serious knowledge about my cameras, and about all the Leica stuff that I still have no idea about. I am looking forward to exchanging information and ideas, and also experiences made with those wonderfully crafted machines.:)

Welcome to the forum, Menju!

You've certainly found the right place with an immense wealth of knowledge and people who are willing to freely help. You might like to start with the Wiki, which you can find in the tab at the top of the page, and topics that aren't covered in the Wiki will be answered if you post questions in the Leica Collectors and Historica subforum here.

Pete.

It's been a while since my Leica II appeared in this thread so here it is, doing nothing with a considerably younger relative. I know that we're not supposed to post images not taken with Leica equipment (which this evidently isn't), but ask for leniency given the connection to Leica.

Below is a photo of, probably, Batman's Beetle.

I knew there had to be a thread devoted to screw mounts somewhere, so now I've found it.  I'm pretty new to the forum, and haven't had this camera very long.  Haven't used it much, either.  I just take it out and look at it from time to time.  It's a 1951 Leica IIIf, with a 1952 Leica 50mm f2 Summicron, collapsible.  I like the lens very much.

Welcome! And as an inspiration to keep your lovely camera in good working shape there is the Barnack Challenge held from time to time - see the thread in the Photo/Challenges section.

I got a new lens for it, and I haven't had a chance to evaluate the results of using it yet, but it looks good.  I'm anticipating using it for real, anyway.

Here's the camera I take out for walks.

I cannot afford the new digitals, but happily use some of my old screw mount lenses on a Fuji X body (for assignments also). The Summitar is great for portraits and I just love the results of working with a 90mm Elmar and 135mm Hektor.

But put a Ilford Delta 100 film in this one and I really get homesick for the dark room.
