Also judging by the pictures of the persimmons is must not be easy to focus wide open. I've been using a Zorki-1E (or -1D), liked the operation of it, decided to get a IIIc (f) because it seems a nice companion for my M4-2/Leicameter MC/Leicawinder. The camera (plus several pre war lenses and finders) was handed over to me by my (late) father nearly 40 years ago and used ever since by me as it was before by my family. This 86 years old lady was sent back to Leica only twice for a proper service in all this time and is still in perfect working order. Welcome, dear visitor! cobbu2 Posted May 9, 2014 Share #809 Posted May 9, 2014 I finally jumped in to the LTM pool with a newly-acquired II. From what I can tell, it's from the initial 1932 batch, SN 83494. It's a well-worn beauty with the brass coming out in all the right places. I wish this camera could tell me its story! But it's telling my story now and it works beautifully. I had a camera-less 50/2 late model (coated) Summitar and now it has a place to reside. It's slightly front-heavy with the Summitar, I assume as opposed to the f/3.5 Elmar it would have originally had, but it's not an issue. My prior LTM experience goes back to using my mom's IIIg; she's 83 now, still uses it and lets me borrow it when I come to visit every so often, so I can't claim it! Curiously with the ORAKO it gives an almost anaglyphic experience with the red/green shifting colours. Unfortunately doesn't help at all trying on focus on black printing on a brown paper back in dim lit scenes. Welcome, dear visitor! What a fantastic camera - feels better in the hand than my M3, has the best viewfinder of any Leica with the SBOOI attached, and the red scale elmar is the smoothest little 50. Prefer it in use to my MP, M6, and even the M3. BUT the limitation is the lenses - I could not give up the gorgeous photos coming out from the 50 summilux pre-asph or the summicron asph 35. Sigh. Sigh. As you may already know, both the 50 Summilux pre-asph and 35 Summicron asph were produced as a special edition in screwmount around the year 2000 for the Japanese market. I know of a forum member who uses a IIIf and LTM 50 Summilux pre-asph and the relative size isn't an issue as far as he's concerned but I expect it would be a subjective matter. Not trying to tempt you but if you had an LTM 35 Summicron you could use it on any of your IIIf, MP, or M6 with an adapter. A miller Posted June 6, 2014 Share #818 Posted June 6, 2014 I'm just getting wind of this thread and would love to "stand up" and say that I regularly use a IIIg which is in a solid Ex+ to mint- condition as well as two lenses: 28mm summaron - w/o the hood 50mm elmar - w/ the hood I love the 28mm for its miniscule size as well as its classic rendering. I have, however, noticed that it is very contrasty, and will probably start slightly reducing the development time in order to dial down the contrast. Anyone else experienced this? Anyone know where I can get a "user" lens cap for this lens? I love the 50mm elmar for its ergonomics, size and rendering. Lately, I have been using the hood and focusing by turning the lens barrel (with my fingers on the hood) rather than using the focusing knob. I find the throw to be much shorter like this and much better. This lens works great on my M9 and MM as well. I find this lens also quite contrasty, although not as much as the 28mm summaron. I've used the Leica half case with the this camera for a while but have had an ephiphany that it diminishes one of the star qualities of this camera, which is its compact size. cobbu2 Posted June 7, 2014 Share #819 Posted June 7, 2014 My Leica II needed repairs, so I sent it back to the dealer; we made a deal to trade the II for a I Model E Standard and I must say I'm even more happy with it! I've since obtained the VIOOH Universal Finder and a 35/3.5 Summaron to complete the package. I'm in the process of putting it through it's paces; the shutter works like new... silky smooth!
