farnz Posted August 20, 2013 Share #742  Posted August 20, 2013 Pete, Is Acros 100 another of the Fuji films that is disappearing? ... I don't believe so Wilson. According to AP it's Neopan 400 (135), Provia 400X (135 & 120), Superia 400 (120) and all Reala in 120 format.  Pete.

wlaidlaw Posted August 28, 2013 Share #748 Â Posted August 28, 2013 Whilst I don't condone their discourtesy I am aware there have been lengthy discussions on the APUG forum on 127 film and Ilford. Simon Galley, an employee certainly and I think a Director who posts there has given very full explanations as why they will not be producing 127. Â Chris, Â May I ask you to either post or PM me a link to that discussion, as Google search on APUG does not find it. Â I think that the situation has changed for Ilford recently in that Maco's factory in Croatia, making Rollei branded film in 127 size has shut. The only current source of 127 film is a colour negative film (Bluefire Murano) made in Japan and also rolled/marketed in Canada. Most modern 127 users would I think, prefer B&W film, so I felt it was a low cost/low risk business opportunity for Ilford-Harman. Â Where your main business is shrinking, if you want to survive, you have to seek new opportunities and be a bit brave from time to time. You then need to market it well, via for example Rolleiflex/Lomo user groups etc. Â Wilson
chris_livsey Posted August 28, 2013 Share #749  Posted August 28, 2013 Wilson  Indeed the market for film is in "flux' with old makers setting up, again, and others cutting back. Ilford have an annual large format run where given a reasonable order gathered from worldwide dealers sheet film in any size is made. They do have a commitment and it may be with enough interest they would look again at 127. My memory was of a longer thread than this: 127 Ilford? but that may have been over 220 size which is also a no based on machinery constraints.  What address did you use? I would contact directly:  simon.galley@harmantechnology.com  Best ChisL
wlaidlaw Posted August 28, 2013 Share #750 Â Posted August 28, 2013 Chris, Â Many thanks for that info. I will send Simon Galley the updated information. I am surprised that it would be an expensive operation. The major cost and outlay I would have assumed would be getting the backing paper printed. Any small plastic moulding business could churn out the reels very easily but keeping a very close eye on dimensions. There was a time a couple of years ago when the Rollei 127 would not work in many Rollei Babies because the reel spigots were fractionally too thick but ironically would work fine in other 127 cameras. Â Of course Ilford would probably just get going as Maco/Rollei/Ekfe started up again. It seems very strange that Rollei went to all the trouble of developing the Crossbird 200 ISO film, only immediately to stop making it. Brilliant idea to have film you can develop E6 for transparencies/scanning or C41 for colour or black and white negatives. I have three rolls left in 127 size and 5 or 6 in 120. Â I think I am a modern 127 user, however my preference is for 127 colour slide film of which I have a fridge full. With it I can make really full frame slides for projection as I have also stocked a life time's supply of plastic 127 frames. On a 1.5 sq. metre screen they are impressive. With it I can make really full frame slides for projection as I have also stocked a life time's supply of plastic 127 frames. On a 1.5 sq. metre screen they are impressive.  I agree that MF slides are spectacular. I have a 1920's vintage Aldis 2¼ square/quarter plate projector and I sometimes run some Fuji Velvia through my big Rolleiflex 3.5E. I have just blown my last bulb on the Aldis and I am probably going to make a halogen bulb holder for it. I don't have a slide holder for 4 x 4 slides, although I intend to get the Crossbird processed E6 because I think slides scan better than colour negative film to make B&W prints. Most of my colour slides however are 35mm from my various 35mm film cameras and I have a Kindermann Duo projector for those (it has both a small 12" square built in screen or you can use it as a traditional projector).  Wilson

powasky Posted December 18, 2013 Share #757 Â Posted December 18, 2013 Hi Guys. Â First off, we need a screwmount sub-forum...seriously, a subforum for Leica R but not screwmount?! Â Anyway! I recently picked up a pretty IIIF and very very clean collapsible Summicron for next to nothing - $175 out the door. Â IIIF needed a CLA so I sent them both off to Youxin. He remarked that the 'cron was (as I thought) very clean and only needed haze removed. It really is remarkably clean, and shows very few imperfections upon testing it with a flashlight. It came with a UV filter attached and I plan to leave it on there for the rest of eternity. I am thrilled. Â I have just found out today that it is a thorium lens (sn 1043258), which is all the better for me as I shoot B&W almost exclusively! I also like the fact that it has a little weirdness to it. Â Up next is a SBOOI finder and some sort of strap! And more film, always.
erl Posted December 21, 2013 Share #758 Â Posted December 21, 2013 Congratulations Powasky. Sounds like the one I found almost exactly 12 months ago. Mine was mint, just needed a lube for the shutter, it was a bit dry. I am just completing a book "12 Months With a Leica 111f." Â Xmas Day will be the last shoot to complete the episode. I strongly recommend you consider a similar project. You will be amazed at the diversity of things you can and will shoot with a 111f, ranging from Stage and theatrical, to child studies to industrial scenes, and much much more. A very rewarding experience. Â Keep an eye out for upcoming LTM competition on the forum. I think the next one is probably due in January. Keep looking, the thread is not always easy to find. It's a lot of fun.
ironringer Posted December 22, 2013 Share #759 Â Posted December 22, 2013 Hello LTM enthusiasts: I received last week my very nice 1953 IIIf (bought from eBay with original factory tag attached), back from quick CLA service by Kindermann near Toronto. The camera had a dry and draggy shutter mechanism and no slow speeds; now it is as smooth as silk, with just a quiet "chirp" for a shutter sound, with a bright clean rangefinder and viewer. Shows what expert servicing can achieve. The technician said my camera has original Leica shutter curtains in excellent condition; possibly original (the camera was obviously little used), or replaced long ago. Kindermann's veteran technician lent me his own (a generous Christmas present!) beautiful 5 cm Summitar to use, while they try to find a barrel part for my identical Summitar that I sent for service with the camera. It has a problem (some inner screws had worked loose) that he will try to fix when he finds the part. The moral about this 1951 lens (another eBay purchase) is that you can never ask enough questions, or know enough about, possible mechanical and optical issues, for a lens purchased remotely. I look forward to shooting my first roll of 400 colour print film during the Christmas holidays, to get the feel of this oldtimer. And maybe try to find some B&W film too. Can someone tell me what small tabletop tripod (if any existed at that time?) Leica sold in the early 1950s? I would like to mount my IIIf on a small Leica tripod, in my office. And what cable release would have been used with a 1953 IIIf? I assume I need a black cloth covered cable, for a 1953 camera? Merry Christmas from Montreal
wlaidlaw Posted December 22, 2013 Share #760  Posted December 22, 2013 Below are pictures of the table tripod which has remained unchanged at Leica for many years (if it ain’t broke don’t fix it). This is an example from the early 1960’s. I also show a release cable converter from standard cable releases to LTM, after removing the collar round the shutter release and screwing on this convertor. They are readily available on eBay etc. Pictures taken with an M240, SF-58D flash and 40mm Summicron-C, just back from a rebuild and coding by Malcolm Taylor.  Wilson Welcome, dear visitor!
