ryee3 Posted June 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Its getting harder and harder to find a DMR for R8 and R9. Any recommendations where to get a used one and at what price?
Advertisement Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Hi ryee3, Take a look here Leica DMR getting rarer?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted June 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 6, 2010 I don't know who's got one, but last time I saw one for sale it was £2,700. That's what I paid for mine new. They have increased in value buy 1/3 since I sold mine 18 months ago.
stunsworth Posted June 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2010 Ffordes in the UK have three in stock starting at 2299 GBP... https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm Used>Digital cameras> Leica
jaapv Posted June 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2010 I wouldn't say they are getting rarer. With about 4000 built they are pretty rare to begin with. Most owners are hanging on to them - they are not getting cheaper either....
topoxforddoc Posted June 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 6, 2010 Jaap, I don't think 4000 were made. I heard just over 3000. I've had 3 (lost one though - burglary). I won't part with my 2 DMRs - at least, not until there is a fully fledged replacement with a prism (NO EVF). The IQ is still astonishing and I don't need any more. Best wishes,
rsh Posted June 7, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 7, 2010 They are hard to come by. I was lucky enough to find a new / unused DMR on E bay an couple of months back. It was not cheap at $3,800.00 but with no idea as to whether Leica will offer an Reflex replacement, I purchased it as a backup.
mole73 Posted June 7, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jaap and Charlie, none of you is right. :-) In Wetzlar last November Stefan Daniel told the audience that they produced 2300 units of the DMR. So it is pretty rarer than you thought... It is a wonderful piece of equipment for the fascinating R8 and R9... Greetings Robert
jaapv Posted June 7, 2010 Share #8 Posted June 7, 2010 That is the lowest number mentioned yet. The original aim was to build 5000:(
Krauklis Posted June 7, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 7, 2010 I was in Wetzlar in November last year, too, and listened to Stefan Daniel and I'm pretty sure he said that 2200 DMRs were sold, he did not mention production figures, as far as I remember. (And I got one of those 2200 sold). They obviously (and hopefully) retained a large number for warranty and other repair cases. -krauklis
jaapv Posted June 7, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 7, 2010 As I said, the owners are hanging on to them. They are unique in the images they take

spydrxx Posted June 8, 2010 Share #13 Posted June 8, 2010 About every 3-4 weeks or so one shows up on the big auction site...I had hoped they would come down in price, but that just hasn't happened. Finally I gave in, got a used Sigma SD14 and replaced the body's lens mount so it only takes Leica lenses now (it is a reversable operation) - I call it a poor man's DMR. I did have to lightly shave down the light shields on two lenses so they wouldn't hit the sensor guard, but emotionally I recovered pretty quickly after seeing the results. ferdinand Posted June 9, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 9, 2010 Last time we met I believe you were shooting a Nikon [/quote So it was I changed from Nikon to Canon in 2006 for full frame reasons and the option to adapt my R lenses. I sold all newer Nikon equipment and keeped my old manual focus lenses and my F3 (I have three of them). On that time, Nikon said they cannot produce a 24x36 digital SLR. Ok, time changes but now I'm a Leica and Canon photographer
