Nice one Carl! That Summilux looks great too.

Thanks, yes it is a wonderful camera. I had it CLAd by DAG a couple of years ago. The VF is now probably as bright as is was when new and the mechanics are perfect. You can't beat that VF for shooting 50, 90 or a 135.

The first version of the 50/1.4 is not as bad as people make it out to be. You can't compare it to the 50/1.4ASPH in terms of sharpness or resolution, but I like it for what it is. The two was purchased as a kit when new and its is kind of nice that they've been kept together through various owners before me. I believe I have the original receipt somewhere.

Cheers,

Carl

More like I wish I could put the M3 finder in the MP!

I could not agree more! My M3 has been with me for years, and despite a few chips and bangs, works perfectly, and is an inseparable part of me. My lovely new MP is beautiful, and the older and wiser camera plays well with the young pup, although they do squabble occasionally as to who gets what film.

I guess I will have to wait fifty years to find out if the MP really is as well built as the M3. By then of course, the M3 will be 100 years old, and probably still working perfectly, being looked at by my great grand children.

For years, I never really understood the DoF indicator in the M3 finder. Now I miss it in the MP. The MP finder is good, great even, beyond comparison, unless you are comparing it to the M3.

I heard a quote that I can only agree with totally: "The M3 Leica is not just the best 35 mm camera that has ever been made, it is the best 35 mm camera that ever will be made!"

My M3 DS from 1955 - paired with a more recent Cron. Been thinking of picking up something perhaps more age appropriate for the old girl.

Lovely photo. That Summicron looks great. What are you considering, a 50mm or something different? If 50, can I suggest a Summarit?

Yes, definitely a 50 and thank you for the suggestion. I was thinking of a lens from the M3 era like a collapsible or rigid Summicron, a DR or maybe even the Elmar-M f3.5 - something with a noticeably different signature than my existing Summicron 50 (which often lives on my MP) and that looks more at home on the M3. I'm leading toward a collapsible because there are times when I'd also like something more compact.

Try a Rigid Cron from 1963, you will make your M3 happy.
