If I don't get some reaction to the various emails I have sent this week, I will send a registered letter to Oliver Kaltner, the CEO.

Wetzlar have a current habit of charging a basic €800 + VAT for any film camera repairs + parts + extra if there is anything complicated. It was cheaper to buy an R9 while waiting for delivery of the part.  Also, as they now have only a single film technician, there is I am told by one of Leica UK's dealers, about a 6 month waiting list. Wilson

Dear Wilson,

With thirteen Leica film bodies, what you were told by one of the UK Leica dealers caused me to e-mail my contact at Wetzlar.

His abreviated reply was:

"in total there are three (film technicians) but two others are available from production to support servicing.  A total of five.  Skills are not limited more parts are, specially electronic.  We don't work with flat rates. Each camera is evaluated after initial check. But labour time is the criticial factor. It takes 3 to 4 hours for a complete cla or repair, which is minimum 450 to 600 Euro to start with plus parts.

We are faster than 6 months"

Hektor,

Luckily I remembered that before I wrote to Dr. Harsch yesterday. I just hope a secretary does not file it in the circular ground level filing system. I have started the process of a European Consumer Protection complaint, but as you would expect, it is very cumbersome and bureaucratic. The part I need is mechanical not electronic and the identical part is still used on the current M-P and M-A cameras.
