Damn! Your reply to Luigi about the Glas reminded me of a "baby Ferrari" of the era (and not the FIAT Dino), but I cannot recall the car's name.

Stuart... you are surely referring to the ASA 1000 !! Engine designed in Maranello as a sort of exercise for a small 4-cyl high performance engine, car built in Milano for few years, body designed by Bertone... a nice "Coupè" + few spiders + some super rare ultralight "race" version; a very interesting car, and the front lamps were not too different from the current "quiz"... but isn't it...

ASA 1000 wasn't a commercial success... I have the pricelists from 1967... it had a price 20% higher than Alfa Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, a 1600 with all the contents of a real sport Alfa of that times... definitely too much for a little car which had just a bit of flavor of Ferrari...

Luigi, ASA has an interesting story. Bizzarini´s Mini-Ferrari had a great Ferrari engine. Too bad Enzo was too anxious to bring that under the companies brand name.

This has nothing to do with the ASA, except a similar performance.

the Front has hints of a Corvair whereas the rear looks to be NSU. However as I believe there was no such American German connection at that time I have to be wrong.

I am assuming it is rear engine and the Russians produced several of these but none that I know of with such an elegant front.

Looks like a prototype 1969 Volkswagen EA 266, which was designed to replace the Beetle but instead lost out to the FWD Golf. Good one, Ronald, this was really tough! More information here: Volkswagen AutoMuseum :: Selected exhibits

After some hints Carl finally found the car :)

BUT the maker is PORSCHE and their model code was "1966".

VW (who did NOT build it) called it EA 266. They payd about 400 MILLION DM for the development, some sources say. Good money for Porsche, surely helped them to survive ;)

About 15 cars were made, just prior to the "Nullserie" (we know that german word from Leica as well ;)) they stopped the project to make the GOLF instead.

With about 100 hp and 190 km/h, some people call this Porsche 1966 / VW EA266 the first real GTI btw..

Anyway, your turn Carl!

Thanks for the history lesson Ronald, very interesting (I grew up in a VW family, the only make my dad would buy).

I work in central London where there is a congestion charge of £10 per day if you drive your car within the "Congestion Zone". Electric cars do not have to pay, so I see quite a lot of them. The Think looks much better than the G-Whizz, which seems to be the most popular.

I will dig out a new picture shortly.....

For those that haven't got these in their vicinity, here is a full shot of Hans' Tupperware (all the body panels are plastic) Think City.
