digitalfx Posted March 16, 2010 Share #121 Posted March 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I updated my M9 to 1.116 and immediately noticed two issues: 1- I have Auto Power Off set to a minute and the camera shuts itself off after a minute even if I'm busy scrolling through the menus. Never happened before. Very annoying. 2- When the camera is switched off and I press the shutter release button, the rear LED blinks briefly each time, as if the camera is not actually powered off. This didn't happen with the previous firmware. What gives? Same here...see post #112 above.

Jerry_R Posted March 16, 2010 Share #123 Posted March 16, 2010 Try to manually set it to the 28 2.0 [...] On the 15 I have on the left hand side still some tint... but unless i shoot snow that would not really matter. Thx JPH! I set my CV15mm as 28 2.0. It indeed helps a lot! I am satisfied with results. There is maybe minimal tint, barely visible and not on every shot. I even photographed snow - now, during night with flash. I had to remove some vignetting still in LR. So far, I think I will stay with that coding instead of CornerFix. I didn't observe bigger difference between old and new firmware - regarding above subject.

Guest roey Posted March 16, 2010 Share #125 Posted March 16, 2010 not sure how I like the idea of embedding camera serial nr in the image... I mean this goes a long way, its like fingerprint on the image, so if Im not sure I want to be associated with a posted image I better save it and strip all info from the file before posting. hmm. note to self - don't photograph as politially charged events with my Leica ? The M8 embeds its serial number in the metadata as well, so do Canon DSLRs.

Guest roey Posted March 16, 2010 Share #127 Posted March 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anyway to set Leica not to put our serial number into the EXIF? Not that I know. When you create a JPG you can make sure that any excess metadata gets stripped out. If you use LR you will want to choose Minimize Embedded Metadata in the export dialog. PS has similar functionality in the Save for Web dialog.

scott kirkpatrick Posted March 16, 2010 Share #130 Posted March 16, 2010 It seems to me that anonymizing the output from your M9 (or any camera) shouldn't be an issue for raw files, and it can be solved with a little extra effort for jpegs that might be posted in public. I'd like as much information as possible kept in my dng's, and wish Leica would publish the decoding of their MakerNotes stuff, rather than wait for experts like Carl and Sandy to reverse-engineer it so that I can see my approximate aperture in C1 and LR (who look at Sandy's code). BTW, I see the auto time out happening when reviewing pictures on the LCD, but I don't think it happens when shooting. It sounds as if a timer reset that should come from the part of the camera that runs the LCD is not getting to the master microcontroller over on the shooting side. Let's hope Leica catches that in the firmware update that adds new function, such as optional override of lens id when there is a six-bit code observed, or optional override of the noise cancellation routines, or... scott
Ario Arioldi Posted March 16, 2010 Share #131 Posted March 16, 2010 In LR there is a nice feature which allows to define default presets specific to camera serial number. In this respect to have the serial number recognized in the exif is a plus, at least for me. Cheers, Ario
neli Posted March 16, 2010 Share #132 Posted March 16, 2010 Update did go painlessly. +1 not sure how I like the idea of embedding camera serial nr in the image... Just thinking the very same thing. Don't take it to the G8 meetings here in Switzerland, the thought police may come and pay a visit, after logging in on the Leica website with my serial number. Bizarre idea. best anonymous (oh damn, no i'm not)

jaapv Posted March 16, 2010 Share #137 Posted March 16, 2010 I am curious...does the new firmware give a option to manually select the 18/3.8 now. I have been using the WATE at 18 for my Zeiss 18/4 without good results. Of course cornerfix solves that problem. Thanks! There are no uncoded versions of the lens, so it will not be in the manual selection.

ArtZ Posted March 16, 2010 Share #139 Posted March 16, 2010 Guys, I don't see any problem in communicating my serial number after having registered the camera and/or having the original invoice. In fact, I can only see advantages. Not only for copyright purposes but also for classifying pictures. I wish my M8s had the S/N in EXIF like Canon EOS! I use Downloader Pro to download and pre-ordering automatically the pictures in my computer. If you have more than one camera (same model, as I do with Leica and Canon), the serial number tag will create automatically a different folder for each camera containing the pictures in folders by date.. For instance, I have configured Downloader Pro as follows: %u\Downloader\%V\%c\%Y-%m-%D Tokens description: %u = "C:\Users\[user_Name]\Pictures" %V = "Canon EOS 5D" (Camera model) %c = "12345678" (Camera serial number) %Y-%m-%D = "2010-03-16" (Date) At the end, my pictures are in the folder "Downloader" located inside "My Pictures" folder. Inside the "Downloader" folder, I have a folder for each camera model which contains diferent folders with each serial number (See pictures below). With the M8s, I have to do that manually... and I need to check the serial number in pictures using Adobe Bridge, Cornerfix or other EXIF programs. . Welcome, dear visitor! euston Posted March 16, 2010 Share #140 Posted March 16, 2010 Does anybody know whether the new list of recommended SD cards is in addition to the previous list or instead of it? My Sandisk Ultra II 4GB was on the old list but not on the new one. It still seems to work all right but does anyone know whether Leica still approves it for use with the new firmware?
