  1. I've been taking tonight some pictures at ISO 1250. I don't see any noise improvement but something has changed.I really don't know. I wonder if some color corrections and/or a sharpen algorithm improvement give me this impression.
  2. Merci ma poule! ;-) Oui, oui, Henri...
  3. Well... one of my M8 doesn't like very much the new firmware. First, I thought the camera was dead after upgrading. When the upgrade finished, I got a message asking to reset the camera. I waited for about 30 seconds before I switched off the camera. The LCD went off but I could still see the message on the screen (no back light though). I removed the base plate and I could still see the message. I removed the battery... and the message was still there. I installed back the battery, put the base plate on and turned on the camera. NOTHING! Even the red light did not turn on. I tried to removed the base plate and battery and even the SD card again and after a few tries, I managed to resuscitate the camera. I decided to re-flash the firmware, but before doing that I did "Reset" the camera on the menu to the default settings. I upgraded again the firmware. SAME THING. After a few tries, the camera is working again... so I tried a third time. And you know what happened? THE SAME THING! Well, beside this weird thing the camera seems to works fine. I haven't upgraded the second camera because is at home in Paris and I'm in Spain. Just the last think. I think color/firmware corrections have been done in the new firmware. When the image appears on the LCD is blueish and after 2 or 3 seconds you see the right colors. This is particular true with the WATE @16mm. Before I could see the red corners/vignetting immediately after taking the picture till the firmware corrected them 2/3 seconds later... while, since the firmware update, the first [preview] image has changed. It's not like before but I cannot tell you what has changed exactly. I will do some test back home in July with the other camera (not yet upgraded) Yes, a bit disappointing this firmware.
  4. Argggg! I have reserved a M9-P but after seeing this picture, I'll keep my two M8 until a real FF rangefinder breaks into the market. M9 is not a serious camera if you cannot use wide angle lenses on it. Sorry guys. Come on, Leica!
  5. Thank you, Mark! I have at home, in Paris, the Summilux-M 35mm ASPH Lens Hood (#12 589). I use sometimes with Summicron-M 28mm but the original lens hood fits better. I will try to give a call to Solms to see if they can send me the original one to Spain. Regards
  6. Three CV lenses are a must: (in focal length order) Nokton 35/1.2 ASPHERICAL Nokton 50/1.5 ASPHERICAL Color Heliar 75/2.5 The Nokton 50/1.5 and Color Heliar 75/2.5, wide open, are EXCELLENT portrait lenses on a M8.
  7. I have broken the Summicron 28 lens hood. Do you know the part number and if I can get a new one on online? Lens cap is fine. Where I'm now there's no Leica dealer. Thank you
  8. Ready to download! http://us.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_5654.zip
  9. Goodness gracious me! I've rarely seen such quantity of bad taste in a single picture! A guy wearing a jogging suit and baskets being a Leica Ambassador!? My goodness.... Even if the guy is someone called Seal (being famous doesn't give you 'a touch of class' or distinction), it's simply bad taste! Sorry, guys, I never understood why Leica has chosen a 'wally' as a Leica Ambassador. Never mind. God save the Queen.
  10. Write them. http://www.voigtlaender.de/ You can use this formular: http://www.voigtlaender.de/cms/voigtlaender/voigtlaender_cms.nsf/formular?OpenForm&formular=ekontakt_e&lang=e Regards
  11. Nick, The Summicron 28 ASPH is a wonderful lens (especially on the M8 because the crop factor). I like the hood. The only two things you should know about this lens: 1.- ALWAYS insert and remove the lens holding it close to the bayonet. NEVER inser and remove this lens holding it by the hood. The front part of this lens comes apart very easily. I had to send mine three times to Solms for this problem (even if I've never inserted or removed holding it by the hood). Some other people here have reported the same problem. It's probably the weakest point of this lens. 2.- Check focus at 0.7m and f/2. Yes, I know, it's not very common to use a 28mm lens at 0.7m but if focus is not correct at this distance, you will see that at other distance (in particular at infinite) the lens is not as sharp as it should be. Leica also fixed that. I was a bit disappointed when I bought the lens because the lens was amazing at 2-7m but from 10m to infinite images were not so sharp. I called Leica and a technician asked me to check focus @ 0.7. When I informed him I had about 1 cm front focus @ f/2, Leica picked up the lens at my home. Now, I have about 1cm front focus @ 0.7 and f/2.4 but the lens is incredibly sharp at all distances. Well, now... enjoy your new toy! Merry Christmas.
  12. jaay, You have a Noctilux on sale here... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/market/listing/3150/Leica_M8_und_Objektive.html
  13. Mike, I hope you keep in mind the M8 has a cropped sensor (1.33x) and 50mm becomes 67mm on the M8.
  14. A Basque proverb says 'You don't own the house, it owns you' (and I think this is very true, not just because I'm Basque) Anyways, I use Leica half-case on both M8. I have big hands and the case makes more easy to hold the camera. For me it's even better than the Leica handgrip. The most surprising thing, I used my M6 naked for many years... even when it's slimer than the M8 but the M6 accomodates better to my hands
  15. Correction: I have also some back focus (about 1cm at 1.5m at f/2) while is spot on at f/2 and 1m (but also at 0.7m)
