Advertisement Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hi jaapv, Take a look here The Leica User Forum Book - contributions sought. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted December 9, 2009 Share #62 Posted December 9, 2009 After discussion, those of us involved in producing the book have decided that it is silly to exclude M9 photographs from being submitted.... Pity that you exclude X1 owners though... Just kidding, excluding exclusions is the only way to include inclusions sometimes.
Guest flatfour Posted December 9, 2009 Share #63 Posted December 9, 2009 Blurb is a good choice. I have seen a couple of others but they weren't as good. Blurb did an excellent and speedy job on my book which was not for publication. Good luck - I hope plenty of people enter.

Regards, Bill Good, but, just to have a goal, I think that about the price of a M9 could be a nice one... "donate a M9 for a good cause" is a fine tag for us... jsinge Posted December 10, 2009 Share #68 Posted December 10, 2009 You know, I'd love to contribute, really love to. And the amount definitely isn't the issue, if one can afford Leica equipment then he or she can certainly afford the ten quid equivalent. But I am a long time volunteer (16+ years) with the Canadian Cancer Society, so I'm conflicted. I recently renewed my Leica film use and am glad I did. I'm no ace photographer but would like to contribute; I have my moments, near magic results. I'll have a think about this one.
stephen tidik Posted December 10, 2009 Share #69 Posted December 10, 2009 Congratulations on organizing such a worthwhile project. I am sorry to ask, but can you tell me, or direct me to a site which explains how to convert a PSD in Photoshop to a jpeg that is less than 293 kb. At this time I shoot with a M8, raw develop in Aperature, optimize in CS4 to get a master file with all layers etc, then target for a specific size, flatten, sharpen, then print on Epson 3800. I send emails with images from Aperature, but I have no experience converting, and sending fully developed images from Photoshop. Thank for your help. The 293Kb limit for jpg is the one used in this forum to post images, so many of us are accustomed to do such format, and so it has been choosen also for the submission of pictures to this project. To reach this limit in Photoshop is rather easy... basically, you start RESIZING the PSD image in itself (<image size>) to a proper dimension in cm/inches or pixels... personally I use pixels: something around 800-900 for long side is usually sufficient, then you save it in jpg, choosing a quality level around 10: the wizard gives you an evaluation of the resulting file size; playing with dimension and jpg quality you easily learn how to obtain the limit without giving up too much quality in colors. Of course, the jpg file is useful only for this publishing goal (or for very small "test" prints)

I don't see how there is a conflict here, as the ACIR support charties around the world, including Canada. The entry fee is only £10 per shot, which is the cost of 4 coffees in Starbucks over here. Hardly a huge commitment for a one off donation.
stunsworth Posted December 10, 2009 Share #72 Posted December 10, 2009 Congratulations on organizing such a worthwhile project. I am sorry to ask, but can you tell me, or direct me to a site which explains how to convert a PSD in Photoshop to a jpeg that is less than 293 kb There are a thousand and one ways to do this, but the steps I take are... Duplicate the image - you don't want to accdentally overwrite the original Resize the duplicate so that it has a maximum side length of 960 pixels Sharpen the duplicate Flatten the duplicate Convert the image to the sRGB colour space Use "Save for web" to adjust the file size to 293k or less, and then save the duplicate Job done. The convert to sRGB is also an option in "save to web", but so it can be done there if required rather than as a separate step.
Overgaard Posted December 11, 2009 Share #73 Posted December 11, 2009 We are looking for your 1, 2 or 3 best photographs. Just the "best". It is up to you to say which category they go into - the categories/chapters are the same as the Photo Section of the Forum. Thanks. That should give me something to think about ;-)
