  1. I have a Canon 5D which I use most of the time and a G7 to use as a pocket camera. For times when the 5D plus 24-105 lens is too big and I want more fun than the G7 will give, I was thinking of a D2. In fact, I put a $100 non-refundable down payment on a used (excellent ++) D2 from Tamarkin this morning. I am beginning to think I am crazy to pay almost $900 for a four-year-old 5MP camera with an EVF, long (by today's standards) shutter lag, and reported issues with sensor failure. On the other hand, the camera/lens are calling me, and the photo examples I have seen do seem to have a certain look about them. Does such a look really exist with this camera, or does it just seem this way because most who use this camera happen to be goood photographers? If there is such a look, does it come from the lens or from the in-camera image processing? Do the D2 users here tend to use JPEG most of the time?

  4. I'm pretty new at this, but I believe it is possible to make good copies of my 35mm slides using a lightbox, a frame to hold the camera, and a close-up lens (with a step-up adaptor to use a 77mm lens). I have rather limited financial resources and don't want to go out and buy all sorts of lenses and experiment if someone already knows how. Obviously my frame will need to be a specific height (which I can make), and since I'm shooting RAW, I can tweak the colour balance and so forth through Photoshop as required. In any case, many of my slides go back to the bad days of Agfa and Anscochrome and will need major work. Only the Kodachrome ones are any good, which fortunately is the bulk. I digress. Can anyone help me get started please ? I'd be very grateful. PS I'm so new at this, I have yet to take delivery of my Digilux 2 which I bought only a couple of days ago. Prior to that I had a Contax G2 kit. Foz
  5. I just got my near mint D2 for $499 including shipping. Loving it! Put on the Heliopan ES 69 right away to protect the front glass. Will post some photos later on. How do I know my D2 has its CCD replaced by Leica? The serial number is 298XXX and it probably needs to replace the original Sony CCD. Does the firmware tell us anything about it? Or I just need to call Leica USA? Thanks, Jeff

    Digilux2

This summer I have made beautiful pictures at France, Normandy and the Cote d'Azur. And this weekend: Sail Amsterdam 2010. Normally I use Fuji film, Velvia and Provia, on Nikon camera's and the Mamiya 7. I do this because I love projection slides. When I digitize the films by a well known lab, the results are not as good as what I get from the Digilux. Thanks Thorsten Overgaard. I have only 2 small problems. I cannot use a SD card bigger than 2Gb and the battery is empty very fast. Is there any solution??
  7. the back covering on my Digilux 2 is starting to stretch and slip off. Is there a replacement covering available?
  8. Can anyone help me turn on the burst mode so I can take three frames with one push of the shutter? I have it switched to burst mode but the display has it x'd out. Where do I turn this on? Thanks:)

  10. Having recently bought a Panasonic GH1, I'm interested in hearing the views of those who use Leica lenses with micro four thirds cameras. I already have a Digilux 2 so, with the D2 28-90 lens, it makes sense to me to consider Leica prime lenses for the GH1. From your experience, which lens would you advise I consider or would you instead advise that I select from those lenses (Panasonic/Leica) specifically designed for micro four thirds? Thanks in advance.
  12. I love my D2, but unfortunately I found a problem in Digilux 2 manual focus @ infinity. Basically manual focus @ infinity will not focus on infinity at all. Here is my test: [1] Put camera on tripod, set aperture @ F2, set zoom @ 28 mm, and set focus distance at infinity. I took a picture, and I found both foreground and background are blur, and I don't even know where is the focus. [2] Set focus @ AF, point to infinity, and took second picture when AF indicate light is green. this picture is very sharp, both background and foreground, which is expected. It looks like this problem only occur at bigger aperture (F2, F2.8, F4), when I use F5.6 and F8, manual focus @ infinity seems work fine, I got sharp image. I think this issue will make manual "zone focus" difficult. I am not sure if this happened to me, or someone else also experienced the same issue? thanks a lot!!
  14. Hello, this is my first post on the forum. Am currently reading page 81 of 117 pages on this thread so I don't know if this has already been posted. I am actively searching for a D2 and contacted Leica UK the other day asking about free sensor replacement. Was told by Customer Services that; ' up until quite recently, sensor replacement on the Digilux 2 was carried out free of charge, but as of 2013 this is no longer the case ' So there is now a charge and it was suggested that this would be under £200. My apologies if I am posting something you all already knew...
  15. Well for a while I thought my D2 was going on holiday to Leica UK after just seven weeks in my posession. While shooting yesterday I was aware I was having a problem. I was in aperure priority, my usual resting place, but realised I was not getting shutter speeds above 1/250 sec. Lower was OK but not higher, even though I was shooting at f2 and f2.8 in bright light the shutter speed never went above 1/250. What happened instead was that on half pressing the shutter, the aperture would jump up to f8 or so even though set to f2 on the lens. At this point I was thinking the worst. Decided to take a further look this morning - same. Did a camera reset in case a peculiar option had been accidentaly selected - same. Wondered whether it was something to do with flash sync speed, went to pop up the flash and it wouldn't. Really scratching my head now. Removed the Olympus hot shoe cover that I put on it last week and the flash popped up - lightbulb goes on in my head!! If you put on an external flashgun there is an interlock which prevents the internal flash popping up and.....it also sets flash sync speed. The same happens if you slide a hotshoe cover in - the camera thinks there is always an external flash fitted and goes into flash mode - DOH!! Wow, really releived that nothing actually wrong, I was preparing myself for a big repair bill but my beloved D2 lives on...... So if you find a hotshoe cover in your box of bits - leave it there. Nigel

  17. Hi there, this is my first time on this forum. I have just bought a digilux 2 (at last) and was looking for some advice. Can I use my SF20 flashgun from my D1 with the D2. It does reccommend the SF24 but just want to make sure I'm not going to break anything. Also anyone know where I can get a Leica/Lumix wide angle for the D"? Thanks Howard:confused:
  18. I'm considering purchasing a Leica SF 24 flash for use with my D2. Any thoughts? Sample shots? I hardly ever use the flash on the D2 but when I do, I'm not very pleased with the results so I'm wondering if this overpriced flash will make a difference? That aside, I've grown very fond of this camera.

  20. The Atacama desert has a base altitude of about 2600 meters, and several plateaus at over 4300 meters in elevation, many with salt ponds, well below the surrounding volcanic peaks (Chile has 2008 volcanos, of which about 150 are active). This is one such location. We have many more photos from northern Chile and the Falkland Islands on our site. Have a look.
  21. Should we start hoarding D2s for future sale? Just seen mint one with accessories go on ebay for £1000...!!! Is it going to become a collectors' classic? Bought mine on ebay for about £500 in almost perfect condition. Now that's beginning to look almost a bargain.....
  23. I wonder whether we are witnessing a "golden age" for our beloved D2. I am wrong in my impression that more posts here are about D2 than any other non-M9 digital camera? Paul
  24. I've used a polarizing filter on my D2 to good effect when around water (I don't usually shoot through glass windows but have seen the difference there as well). Tutorials had shown me the difference in plant life, but I was surprised at how much difference here. Program exposure, ISO 100, no PP, same time, only difference is 90 degree rotation of the pol filter, to not polarize (on the left), and to polarize (on the right). Pix on the right seems sharper too, although both were AF.
