Fading Memories (Series)

Yesterday I accompanied my partner Elizabeth to visit her Tia Magdalena (aunt). Tia Maggie as we know her was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year. This brought about the expected grief in the family. Yesterday was her birthday, and we caught her on one of her really good days. We had a really fun time with her which included lots of laughter. We found a spot at the nursing home where we could sit with a nice light coming through the window. I was deeply moved by the interaction between Elizabeth (who Tia Maggie calls "La Canche") and her aunt. It was a very special day. Elizabeth is a strange 50/50 mix of New Zealander and Guatemalan. Tia Maggie is from Guatemala. She migrated to the U.S as a young woman. All our joking was in Spanish..

P.S. Elizabeth's Mom lives in Guatemala and we delivered a birthday card from her, hence the card from a sister along with the card from a niece. Thank you Stuart and Michael for the comments. I intentionally took my M8 along and I am so glad I did!

It's great to have a community where we can share images with personal meaning.

That's what it's all about, Wilfredo.

Seriously, thanks for sharing these. I have an extended family member who's unfortunately on the same road as Elizabeth's aunt. Maybe life's not so grim after all...

Wilfredo,

just having my morning coffee, before going to work and thought I'd logon and take a look at whats new in the pohoto forum.

You images stopped me in my tracks, not only that but your introductory narrative is a perfect scene setting piece.

Tremendous images, it is seldom to see several images together , each one showing such emotion.

I am sure you and your family will look at these many times and smile.

Congratulations, all three of you should be very proud of this set.

Regards

Andy

Well, I couldn't thank you all enough for the kind comments. I will be sharing these with Elizabeth. I like to photograph life, and all its ramifications. It is a gift when something gentle and hopeful is found, even in painful situations. That is what life is all about isn't? Makes things a little bit easier.

Cheers,

Wilfredo
