SteveYork Posted November 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) What are the red headed step children doing now, given the demise of Leica's R system? I seriously doubt that there will ever be a digital solution from Leica for R users. And a recent trip to Churchill, Canada, showed me some of the limitations of film viz a vis digital (for some things; mostly related to convenience). earleygallery Posted November 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2009 Just using my R like before, I use film so its not an issue for my camera, and have a Canon digital which I can use my R lenses on too.
andybarton Posted November 22, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2009 I am using my R bodies for film, and my D700 for digital with the converted R glass.

Angora Posted November 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 22, 2009 I just bought a new R lens; and thanks the R users community for the help they provided, by the way.
Overgaard Posted November 22, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The DMR will work for many years still, so I would say that could be a fine solution till something else comes around. If that is the S2 or some R solution, time will tel. DMR can still do what film could in terms of film speed, and the solution definitely has the look of bigger files than 10MP. lct Posted November 22, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 22, 2009 What are the red headed step children doing now, given the demise of Leica's R system? I seriously doubt that there will ever be a digital solution from Leica for R users... Yesterday Stefan Daniel held another Q& A session during ghe Leica Experience Day.... Leica has three different product scenarios regarding adapting R lenses to a Leica digital camera. As soon as a decision for one of these projects is made, Leica will publish a time schedule for this R solution... The only "Leica digital cameras" being S, M and X so far, i doubt this "R solution" will ever match my needs but i'm using a Canon 5D1 with pleasure for now. Aside from vignetting (21/4, 21/2.8 & 180/3.4 at full ap. mainly), no problem with 21/4, 28/2.8, 35/2, 50/2, 60/2.8, 90/2, 135/2.8, 180/3.4 & 35-70/4 R lenses. Most R to EOS lens adapters work fine but a good focus screen is almost mandatory and the finder is too dim at slower apertures than f/5.6. Joachim123 Posted November 22, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 22, 2009 Dont even know how to use a digital camera. Therefore, my R works fine for me. It will be around longer than I am. Just a joy to use and it has never let me down.
wildlightphoto Posted November 22, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 22, 2009 What are the red headed step children doing now, given the demise of Leica's R system? I'm using a pair of R8/DMR bodies with my R lenses.

zonevt Posted November 22, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 22, 2009 I am using an R9 DMR and a Canon 5D with an R lens adapter as backup.
zeitz Posted November 23, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 23, 2009 Is this a trick question? My quess would be that they are doing the same thing M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7, and MP users are doing. The LTM list would be too long to tabulate.
mgcd Posted November 23, 2009 Share #14 Posted November 23, 2009 Still using the R8/DMR, and other R8s and my R lenses. Leica has nothing else I want right now.
nikau Posted November 23, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 23, 2009 Using my SL2 and R6.2 with film scanned on a Nikon 9000 and also my R lenses on a Canon DSLR. Prefer the SL2 -- it's just such a great camera to use.
4X5B&W Posted November 23, 2009 Share #16 Posted November 23, 2009 Shooting Kodachrome with my R6 for the next year, and by then maybe there will be some good news for those superb R lenses......there just has to be a digital option to use the lenses with fully automatic diaphragms. barneybm Posted November 23, 2009 Share #18 Posted November 23, 2009 Still using my DMRs. I am as happy with them now as when I first got them.
Paolo.Battista Posted November 23, 2009 Share #19 Posted November 23, 2009 Never got Leica systems in the past, only Nikon film and digital camera. This summer I purchased an Olympus E410 camera for wlakaround purposes, and tried a Leitz Summicron-R 50 f:2 with an adapter ring. Today I have 5 R lenses, and use them most of the time with the Oly. It's what remembers me more the Nikon FM series. Now I use Nikon D2x primarly for anythingh that's moving fast and for large wide angle work. I plan to buy a Canon 5D for normal R lenses use and an Olypus E620 for telephoto work (it's good to have image stabilization and a 2x factor when using some Telyt-R lenses). Best regards.
