...and the screw is as well quite normal on early Elmars (as well 5cm), it is fixing two parts of the mount, outer that we can see and inner tube where the helicoid thread is cut. If anyone is interested in such deep technical details I may post a photo
-
I have yet the second 3,5cm non-std, 438. Both are close focus, up to 0,5m. While early, 7 oclock 172xxx goes to 1 m only. Set of four non-std is rare but there are some of them. I have few (not all) pages of delivery recordsfor non-std with 4 lenses mentioned, see below. Entry in delivery record is "2,5, 35, 50, 135" while 2,5 relates to Hektor And by chance I found as well record for 37284 - it looks like it was originally delieverd with 135 only, there is no remark that the camera came back to factory and was shipped again elsewhere
-
no, I do not. But next week I may take my lens apart to see, will come back then

firstly a teaser🙂, 4 lenses with the same number, rather rare set yes, it is. It is slipped over and the screw fixing it is behind the focusing knob. DOF shown below comes from 5cm Elmar Purpose of the hole on Lesoa lens is not known to me but it is not the hole for DOF ring. Lens is unique in the way that it is probably the only one non-std 3,5cm lens with only 3 digit number and without DOF. We know that shipping date (what Leica reply with on inquiry) is not the production date, and here, to be precise when the switch from 5 to 3 digits happened we would need insight into records of engraving dept (which could not exist anymore). Thus my further explanations might be incirrect, although very probably. The first non-std camera was 37280 (Hahne list, Band I). Dr Bawendi identified the last 5 digit as 37936. And from v.Einem publication we know that DOF scale has been introduced with approx 41000. This allows us to assign this particular lens (457) to a camera - Hahne list has only one non-std camera between 37986 and 41000. It is 37457. The next one non-std is 42457, but this one should have already DOF and thus no engraving on the mount itself. And we need to keep in mind as well that cameras have been modified/upgraded and thus the lens could have been added to the IA (ending 457) upgraded to IC non-std. However there are strong indications that the lens was originally on 37457. Delivery records have as well information about the lenses which were shipped with non-std camera so Lesoa may try to send an inquiry about this camera to Leica

Good. But on the photo that you posted in#6 this ring is in the correct position, so at this moment camera was repaired, I assume. Whatever, this solves the problem with lining up but has no relevance to the second problem, back focusing that you mentioned. So unless that lens was not fully extracted and locked when you noticed this problem there is still a problem and this could be both: lens or camera. Lens might be assembled incorrectly or shims under ring could be missing
-
do you mean that focusing tab, when lens is at infinity, is at 4-5? Maybe you will post a photo for better understanding For focusing problem - is the lens fully locked/arrested? It is possible that both problems have the same source but it needs more clarification

Markings restored (fake) on wartime Leica
jerzy replied to PeLu's topic in Leica Collectors & Historica
no, it is not. The last camera in Cane list 391500. However 391652 is listed in Lager book about Wehrmacht Leicas, went to Berlin on Dec 5th 1944. Does your camera has still fiducial pointers? Small triangles on upper and lower edge of the frame, visible after you remove lens. -
i found an indication that your camerea was really Betriebskamera 079 - inside the bottom cover this number is written. Have a look
-
correction - my Betriebskamera was previously 063. Insode the camera this number is scratched on the place where it was scribed after aplying synchronisation. I do not remember if there was any number where the arrow points, it is the regular place where camera number was engraved. On the cameras that were synchronised later (as our cameras) the engraved number is covered by the flash contacts and it was practice at Leica that camera number was scribed later as it may be seen. The second occurance of 063 is backside of the cover. There is as well Betr.-K engraved on camera frame. And for the "freaks" - starting with IIIc, serial aprox 410xxx each camera frame received its own, sequencial number. Number on my camera is 45572 and this allows to assign the date when this Betriebskamera was made - it was when IIIc with serial aaprox 460xxx was produced. This is is line with sharkskin covering. Your camera is is probably close to mine, and although is does not have selft timer it originates from the same period as mine.

I wonder how many of us can read and understand spanish, me not. Nowadays translating is a question of seconds, but anyhow _ for those like me here is the english (google) translation "Hello. Here's my Leica IIIc or IIIf Betriebsk. No. 397696, but the seller told me it's the (079). I don't know which one it is, and I don't want to take it apart to check the inside. He gave me a Leica document that I can't decipher or translate. Can anyone help me? Thanks." in mid 60-ties, when Leica stopped production of screwmount Leicas the former Betriebskameras have been revised and equipped with the new, regular top cover. As serial numer the previously unused numbers 397xxx were assigned and cameras have been sold, presumably within the employees. 079 means pretty sure that it was Betriebskamera 079, some indication may be found inside the camera. My former Bkamera was 064, has as well sharkskin covering

I have it by the hand, William. No, 390175K is not on the list either -

ist tatsächlich nicht einfach, mechanisch kompliziert. Um die Tücher zu erneuern muss man komplett zerlegen.

Leica IIIg - rewind lever question
jerzy replied to ApoVision's topic in Leica Collectors & Historica
Some late IIIf red dial have as well the feature of blocking wind, this is OK -
yes, but as well the wheel is different. I do not mean here engravings, this is obvious but the cutout on the backside of the wheel, similar to this on the right photo. N version rotates roughly 300 degree while on regular Fofer it is roughly 280 degree. Other parts are the same.

Leica original Rollos welches Modell
jerzy replied to Albert Cologne's topic in Leica Sammler & Historica
die kürzeren schauen wie Schliesstuch für Schraubleicas nach cca 1935 (bis Produktionsende), längeres könnte Schliesstuch für Leicaflex sein.
