Forum split M8/M9 - should it remain?

By separating the forums, people can find the information they're most interested in very quickly, without being mixed in with a lot of other information they may have no interest in reading.

For those who do want to read up on both cameras, it's no big deal to check one forum and then the other.

I wish all forums followed the example here; for me, I might be interested in reading up on the M9 (which I can't afford to buy), but I'm far more interested in the M8 information as I've got one. I suppose that if I had one of each, I'd then be happier if the forums were combined, but I don't see that happening for a long time to come.

I think that M8, M8.2 and M9 have much more in common than in contrast and that many discussions of M DRF lenses, accessories, IR questions, etc. are relevant to both. I hope that the two forums are combined.

There's a lot of excitement about the M9 but, in many ways, the camera is a lot like the M8.2.

Cheers,

As Sean writes, as lot of information on the M8 forum will be of interest to people on the M9 forum and vice versa. Having to check both forums is tedious and it would be much easier just to ignore topics that are not of interest in a unified M8/M9 forum. The current situaton of separate forums for the two cameras simple creates the problem of the excessive fragmentation, like that of the photo forum here.

My thought is to leave the forums split for another couple of months. Right now, people are trying to find out news about the M9 while others are going about their business with the M8. By the end of the year, when more people actually received their M9s, the forum can be combined.

This makes sense. After the buzz wears off the M9, the similarities with the M8 series will reassert themselves and the threads can be re-united. For now, though, giving the M9 excitement its own space is preferable.

My vote there too!

Agreed. The M9 threads are mainly about 'new product' and are not common with the M8. Inevitably that will reduce and become digital M issues. That's the time to combine.
