ptarmigan Posted September 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Must say I see little in either forum that is relevant to the other and I personally don't mind visiting both. Just my opinion of course. Others may feel different.
Advertisement Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Hi ptarmigan, Take a look here Forum split M8/M9 - should it remain?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photon42 Posted September 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2009 I believe we have too many digital forums. M8+9 could share the same forum, certainly.
MikeMyers Posted September 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2009 By separating the forums, people can find the information they're most interested in very quickly, without being mixed in with a lot of other information they may have no interest in reading. For those who do want to read up on both cameras, it's no big deal to check one forum and then the other. I wish all forums followed the example here; for me, I might be interested in reading up on the M9 (which I can't afford to buy), but I'm far more interested in the M8 information as I've got one. I suppose that if I had one of each, I'd then be happier if the forums were combined, but I don't see that happening for a long time to come.
sean_reid Posted September 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2009 I think that M8, M8.2 and M9 have much more in common than in contrast and that many discussions of M DRF lenses, accessories, IR questions, etc. are relevant to both. I hope that the two forums are combined. There's a lot of excitement about the M9 but, in many ways, the camera is a lot like the M8.2. Guest malland Posted September 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2009 By separating the forums, people can find the information they're most interested in very quickly, without being mixed in with a lot of other information they may have no interest in reading. For those who do want to read up on both cameras, it's no big deal to check one forum and then the other... As Sean writes, as lot of information on the M8 forum will be of interest to people on the M9 forum and vice versa. Having to check both forums is tedious and it would be much easier just to ignore topics that are not of interest in a unified M8/M9 forum. The current situaton of separate forums for the two cameras simple creates the problem of the excessive fragmentation, like that of the photo forum here. —Mitch/Potomac, MD Beasts of Botswana (color)
jamriman Posted September 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 26, 2009 I'm always bouncing back and fourth. Kind of annoying.
BerndReini Posted September 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My thought is to leave the forums split for another couple of months. Right now, people are trying to find out news about the M9 while others are going about their business with the M8. By the end of the year, when more people actually received their M9s, the forum can be combined.
offshore Posted September 26, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2009 Separate but equal.
khemani Posted September 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 26, 2009 i would prefer a common forum for the m8 and m9 - plenty of discussions are applicable to both. if a discussion is specific to one or the other, it can be so stated in the title. dcoombs Posted September 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 26, 2009 My thought is to leave the forums split for another couple of months. Right now, people are trying to find out news about the M9 while others are going about their business with the M8. By the end of the year, when more people actually received their M9s, the forum can be combined. This makes sense. After the buzz wears off the M9, the similarities with the M8 series will reassert themselves and the threads can be re-united. For now, though, giving the M9 excitement its own space is preferable. melissah Posted September 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 26, 2009 i think it is annoying to go back and forth, but the main reason imho is that alot of photogs that used to post in the M8 forum are now only posting in the M9 forum. many of the posts in the M9 forum are relevent to both forums. best, melissa

Rolo Posted September 26, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 26, 2009 My thought is to leave the forums split for another couple of months. Right now, people are trying to find out news about the M9 while others are going about their business with the M8. By the end of the year, when more people actually received their M9s, the forum can be combined. Agreed. The M9 threads are mainly about 'new product' and are not common with the M8. Inevitably that will reduce and become digital M issues. That's the time to combine.
gfspencer Posted September 26, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 26, 2009 I like two different forums.
wda Posted September 26, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 26, 2009 If the two forums are combined, 'Today's' postings will stretch over several pages. Pretty unwieldy, I would think.
farnz Posted September 26, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 26, 2009 Please leave the two forums as they are. The M8 forum is at last a pleasant and reasonable place to visit now that the grumblers and moaners have new carrion on which to feast in the M9 forum. Pete.
