rsolomon Posted March 29, 2009 Share #21 Posted March 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I sold mine - no regrets but I wanted a DMR II badly, Leica missed this market! an oppty to have better performance at higher ISO, extend to 3200 even, perhaps 5 fps, ability to write raw + jpg, Oh and if they (could have) put image stablization either into the camera or into the DMR back it would have been a clear winner for me. Now my kit looks like: Digilux 3 with R lenses is a winner, most likely i will go Oly E3 and continue to leverage R lenses since Leica appears to have no plans for a Digilux 4 (another miss by Leica) , the Oly offers image stablization and i continue to use my assortment of R lenses along with offering a fine assorment of OLY AF lenses. Digilux 2 - the best P&S in my opinion R9: The sweetest SLR film camera Rich
Advertisement Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Hi rsolomon, Take a look here Why did you sell your DMR?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dhsimmonds Posted March 29, 2009 Share #22 Posted March 29, 2009 As I understand it SDHC cards will not work. Gene , Doug is correct SDHC cards do not work even, with v-1.3 firmware. Ensure that you buy a SD 4gb card.
grduprey Posted March 29, 2009 Share #23 Posted March 29, 2009 Thanks Dave and Doug, I just happen to have a SD 4G card that I got for my M8 before they came up with the firmware fix to use SDHC cards, so it should work with the DMR. Generally speaking I use the 2G cards, however with the DMR the capacity of the 2G cards is about half of the M8 capacity, so it would be nice to have a bit more capacity. Jamie Roberts Posted March 29, 2009 Share #24 Posted March 29, 2009 Haven't sold mine either, and probably won't for a long time (well, at least until we see what R comes out of the S ) I shoot with a D3, a couple of M film bodies and an M8. My DMR system is still the gold standard for image quality at ISO 800 or below.
sdai Posted March 29, 2009 Share #25 Posted March 29, 2009 Haven't sold mine either, and probably won't for a long time (well, at least until we see what R comes out of the S ) Then you probably will never sell it ... between recovering 2 or 3 grand and keeping a piece of history I'd rather choose the later. jlancasterd Posted March 29, 2009 Share #26 Posted March 29, 2009 I haven't sold mine either, and have no intention of doing so before the new R10 materialises - if then. With 21-35 and 28-90 zooms it will cover most situations very well indeed and the quality of its RAW files are, if anything better than those from the M8 - and I do make direct comparisons. Provided that batteries and spare parts are available on a reasonably long-term basis I see no reason why an R8 or R9 plus DMR shouldn't go on producing top quality images for years to come. Overgaard Posted March 29, 2009 Share #27 Posted March 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't think mine is going anywhere anytime soon. It's a keeper Here's a file from last week, it find it self-explanatory.

jaapv Posted March 30, 2009 Share #29 Posted March 30, 2009 I do not think batteries will be a serious concern for the forseeable future. Leica may have ended the sale of manual-focus R gear, but customer support and spare parts service are fully operational. And there are a number of companies that will refurbish discontinued battery packs at a quite reasonable price. Having said that, I have ordered a couple of new batteries which I will keep in the freezer in case I need them in the future -in the same plastic box that holds two Digilux2 batteries... Jaap, Is that how you best store batteries? I've got 3 new ones on the way to add to the 4 I have in use for my 2 DMRs. How do you store them in the freezer? You mention a plastic box - anything elses? Best wishes, Charlie
jaapv Posted March 30, 2009 Share #31 Posted March 30, 2009 I am not an expert, and it may be absolute nonsense what I am doing, but I half-charged them, vacuumed them in a plastic bag an put them in a box in the freezer.

Jamie Roberts Posted March 30, 2009 Share #34 Posted March 30, 2009 Thorsten--wonderful shot, and exemplifies the reasons why the DMR is still the tops, and why I'm optimistic about a future R-optic-compatible Leica release. I know it's probably me, since I've only had the D3 for 6 months (that's still early IMO) but while I *can* get beautiful shots from the 85 1.4 Nikkor and work in post, I can get there so much faster with a DMR and the 80 1.4 Lux, say (and I know I shouldn't do this, but I never post this stuff I do all the time with the DMR --so these are almost picked at random ) Why would I sell a system that does this straight out of the camera? 180 Elmarit & DMR f3.2 straight out of C1 (no post). There is currently nothing in the Nikon line up that comes close to this lens: Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 80 Lux around 2.5 - 3.2. The 85 Nikkor is nice, but it doesn't render as wonderfully as this Mandler-designed lens does:
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 80 Lux around 2.5 - 3.2. Jamie Roberts Posted March 30, 2009 Share #36 Posted March 30, 2009 Thorsten - Great image! Certainly an eloquent testimonial for the DMR. Conrad--I noticed a few D3 additions on your new site. Are you still mostly using the DMR or have you gone to Nikon as well?
mgcd Posted March 30, 2009 Share #37 Posted March 30, 2009 Conrad--I noticed a few D3 additions on your new site. Are you still mostly using the DMR or have you gone to Nikon as well? Jamie - Actually, there is only one (1) D3 image - I was given a D3 to try out - I'm seriously tempted. The other ones mentioning Nikon were shot with R8s and film (yes it still happens...) scanned on a Nikon LS 8000 scanner. Annoyingly, the site reads the scanner metadata as shot with Nikon cameras. That said, with the demise of the R line and the uncertainty of the pricing points for the new S2 and lenses, I feel a little uncertain right now. I'll wait to hear more about the S2 developments. I'm still shooting with my DMR in the meantime and I'm, of course, happy with the results. Cheers,
wakewood Posted March 30, 2009 Share #38 Posted March 30, 2009 the DMR amazed me right from the beginning and nothing changed since. It didn't get any worse and I cannot imagine how I could possibly improve on the image quality gearwise. How could I replace the 19, 35 & 80 lux, the apo elmarits 100 & 180 and the 28-90? And why? Manual focus suits me well, as does the size and concept. So why change ?
grduprey Posted March 30, 2009 Share #39 Posted March 30, 2009 Ok, I love the examples posted here, and my question to everyone, is what software do you use for post processing? I'm new with the DMR, and use Elements for my R8 along with iPhoto for quick reviewing. Thanks, Gene
Overgaard Posted March 30, 2009 Share #40 Posted March 30, 2009 Dear grduprey, I use Adobe Lightroom 2 for the most, for workflow reasons, and single files I might send through FlexColor 4.8.6 (from Hasselblad/Imacon). The above example is a Lightroom 2 RAW conversion. You will find Lightroom 2 perfect easy compared to iPhoto as it allows previewing, archiving, editing, keywords, etc. You can read the section about software on my DMR page at leica.overgaard.dk - Thorsten Overgaard's Leica Pages - Leica DMR dSLR digital back sample photos and test
