Hi guys,

I’ve been thinking about picking up the M11-P Safari but not to actually use it.
My plan would be to just keep it on the shelf, untouched, and see how the value develops over the next 10 years.

Do you think that’s a smart move?
I mean… given how some Leica special editions appreciate, it feels almost irresponsible to actually take it out and shoot with it.

Curious what you think.

Best,

Best,

No - it will have depreciated considerably by then as the service period will be ending. This is a camera to use and enjoy.

Best,

If you have spare cash there are lots of inanimate objects you can buy and just look at.  The purpose of buying a camera is to make photographs.  If you need investment advice there are better places to go to than a photo forum.

Collectors and users are not the same market. I would protect the camera from dust and moisture if  were a collector so i'm not sure a shelf would be the best place to store it. You will find better answers than mine on the Collectors forum i guess. Happy non-snaps 😉

I suggest you take “finance” out of your forum name.

Look at Mr. 24k Posts being so financially sensible. I didn't realize spending 8 hours a day on a forum for the last 15 years was such a lucrative investment strategy. Thanks for the tip, Jeff, but I think I’ll keep the username. I dont think that people in this forum who are older than 50 should be on the high horse here!

A sense of humor is a good investment for future well being.

Apart from the M10-R, M9-P ?

I aint so sure.. short terms may be, but in the long run they will lose their values but i might be wrong

i had the m10r black paint once and kept hold of it for some good years, but lately i think it is depreciating too, i wont get the M9p now for sure but it might be a hermes 🤣

I wanted to start photography again and wanted the Leica "M" look camera like my grandfather had way back when (50s & 60s). I found a Leica "certified" silver M11 that had less than 850 photos on the mechanism. That gave me a two year Leica warranty. I guessed a 35mm would be a good lens to start with so got a new Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH.

Have watched several RedDot presentations on the photography topic and M11 settings. Now learning the basics.

Took nearly 10,000 photos with my V-Lux (Top 114) over nine weeks in Southern Africa. Despite myself, quite a few were really amazing probably due to the auto focus system.

No illusions of grandeur for me, just hope I can learn enough that the percentage of the "keepers" gets better with time.😇
