Well you can still fairly flawlessly use M8 from 2006....

:):):)

So do I with my IIIg as well ;)

My concern is about how to set the camera without an app…. But the thread gives some answers. Thank you all

I use M11D for more than half a year. No any issues, everything works like a charm. I'me extremely happy with it. The only thing that irritates me is long time to wake up - I've already lost several shots due to this behavoir. Afterwards I've changed sleep timeout to 30 minutes, so now issue is gone.

It is probably because you were so negative on the M11's from the start.

But hey, I wish I had an M60 edition 🙂

I've succumbed to M11-P at launch and used it for a year with no problems though.

Be honest though Mr Uporg, how long was it between download and deletion episodes 🤣

Joking apart, it shouldn't have happened regardless obv!

Love my M11-D. The internal memory corruption could happen with any of the M11 series.

Such an issue has ever been reported before, though, and the M11s have been out a long time now. When first released and as @setuporg was using it, the M11-D did not yet allow formatting of the internal memory in camera or in the app. It's highly likely that had something to do with it, but we'll never really know. Leica adding the ability to format the card in the FOTOS app might have been added to avoid issues with managing the card data on a computer instead. Or could just have been a faulty component, but what extremely unfortunate bad luck that would have been.

At first I was not interested when this camera was released last year. I have had the M-D and owned the m10-d. After playing with the m11-d, feel the lighter weight and the better positioned iso dial I was sold. Also the battery-life, USB c charging for me are things that make the digital shooting experience better. So far I am happy. I do really feel the lighter weight of the camera and the results are very good. I can't be bother by the magenta cast issues. I have turned auto white balance off and use spot metering. Havent had any issue so far, but have only taken about 150 shots with it.

In short, yes I am happy.

Every few months I think about formatting my card in my M11-D.   Usually I just download through Mac Photos, which auto-deletes my photos once downloaded (I know, technically there are still remnants on the card, at least that is what "experts" claim).   Knock on wood, I continue to have no issues after 6+ months of this process and many thousands of photos taken..

Deletion by computer is a bad idea. The camera should do it. On the other hand, you can run the SD Formatter application on the computer to format the SD card.

Was the problem with you D specific to that or just about the internal memory? In other words, why no more screenless M’s, as opposed to swearing off using internal memory?

For the OP - I’ve not owned by have given test runs to various M11’s, including the D. Bottom line, I think when it works it’s a solid camera with an impractical level of resolution. ISO advantage is generally tempered by the need to shoot higher shutter speeds.

For that and other reasons I prefer the M10-D.

But generally I am fan of the “D” experience.

Do you also empty the Mac trash before disconnecting the camera? Otherwise don't they just reappear in the Mac trash when you connect the camera again?

I’ve realized that every screenless M after the original Edition 60 and M-D is a gimmick.  There’s WiFi/bluethooth electronics involved to sneak inside.  I’m mixing up two themes but they collided in my case.  It was excruciating to see the thumbnails of the files in FOTOS and being unable to extract them.  Regular Ms, no SSD usage, and I honestly have to see whether I’ll need anything past M10-R/M.  The Q343 was a much better addition and it does not have an SSD!

I sort of follow this logic but not totally. Using fotos on the m10d is optional, for example. And I don’t see how it affects the shooting experience any more than downloading images to a computer does. It’s a gimmick in the way that auto iso is a gimmick, I guess? Practical if you want it but not necessary.

But the SSD issue I sympathize with. That’s a solution to a problem I never personally perceived. Which was a theme with pretty much all m11 features. All fixes to issues that never existed for me.

As for whether an M past the 10 series is needed, at this point that’s an easy no for me and has been since 2017.

You are tempted to sneak peek.  Since it impossible with the originals you won’t do it.  Same as not chimping.

They get permanently deleted from the card after transferring to the Photos app but do not go to Trash.

That may be an overly broad statement.  If you had stated "Deletion using a computers GUI where other things are going on in the background to stop you from doing something you might later regret" I might agree.  But simple deletion is fine.  Been doing it that way for decades on cards used in cameras from multiple vendors without an issue.

Is there a simple deletion in the current computer OSs? Running SD Formatter on the computer is safe.

The simple deletion in Mac Photos is it downloads pics, then automatically wipes card.   I'm not sure how it can get more simple, other than it does not automatically "eject" the card after download/wipe?   But if I use a USB-C cable to do the downloading, it will wipe the card, then I turn off my M11, which "ejects" it.
