This rule is not very well thought through for cameras as it is normal practice to charge a battery at home whilst using the camera elsewhere.

Really?
I'd have thought everybody and their mother just plugs in the camera when they get home these days - you know, as you'd do with your phone?

Even in my days as a working photographer for a daily newspaper I never ever actually needed the second battery I was carrying around all those years.
I admit that it felt very "pro" though to charge that one half-empty battery in the dual-slot Nikon charger at the end of the day though 😅

Rather difficult, as my cameras see their most intense use in the African bush. I go through a number of batteries a day, in daytime when I am out two are on chargers at the camp charging station, in the evening when I need the cameras for camp life and waterhole another two and overnight any more that I might need. I guess  I could charge one battery in-camera at that time…At home, I don’t like to tie up my camera to a charger at any time. My phone? It charges at night when I sleep and in the car when I drive. And I have a battery pack when I can’t charge at all.

Ok, I appreciate you are somewhat of a special case, being in the african bush and all, and on top of that refusing to plug a charging cable in that beautiful USB-C port Leica gave you 🙂

But you do get my point though, right?
For the vast majority of people the M11's battery lasts easily throughout the day, and they just charge the camera for a bit when they get home. Or in the car. Or with the battery pack. Or next week, whatever.

I actually think that EU regulation is thought out well enough, frankly.
I'm actually completely fine with devices not including USB-C chargers any more, I already have more than I need in my lifetime.
I love being able to charge all my devices with the same cable, and I love not having to bring multiple chargers when travelling.

So I wouldn't complain they don't include a charger with my Safari Leica, but I actually would be pissed they didn't include the nice brown strap 😀

What on earth are you going to do with a Safari version if you don’t take it into Africa? At any rate I do think that even if the charger is not included, even if one is not sitting on top of a mountain of them, there are plenty of of third party ones to be had, the camera makers could include a simple plastic passive adapter to accommodate the charging of a battery whilst freeing up the camera for use.

If the non-Safari version is good enough for Safari, then a Safari version is good enough for Amsterdam :).

Are you serious, no charger since when?. I got one with my M11M. That's really taking the piss IMO.

I don't buy special editions, a self imposed decision given the price premium of some, but still admire them.
Congratulations on your new camera, it looks beautiful and I wish you much joy and good light.

My recent M11M in the new packaging didn’t have a charger. not including them any longer. Only old stock in the silver and black boxes may have them.

When they stopped including them, I do not recall a concurrent price drop….

My M11 Mono purchased before the EU ruling so it did include a charger 🙂 but you’re right about pricing, there has been no change 😫

Does anyone know if the Cognac neck strap is available on its own?

Yes, you have to buy it separately as the included strap on m11 safari is black.

That is one Leica accessory I won't be paying for!

In my drawer over there is my custom strap that Harry Benz made for me. Brown Water Buffalo leather (does not stretch) made to exactly the length to have an M camera ride just behind my right hip when worn cross-body.

It's really not worth the price tag, but the colour does match perfectly with M11 Safari.

I am surprised that it wasn’t included. I think they did with the M10-P Safari.

Yes, cognac strap included with the M10-P Safari, which also had a matching cognac leather SD card wallet.  And of course a charger 🙂
