My biggest complaint with the M11 is that every time I turn the camera on, I have to both remember that the wake-up profile is now active, and to fiddle with the menu to change it.

Is there some easy way to change the profile, e.g., with the single press of a button?, or better,

Is it possible to change the default profile to one of the six user created profiles?

The last user profile you've been using should be active when you turn the camera on. As for changing profiles, you don't have to fiddle with the menu. You can also tap the icon # 16 of the status screen for that.

To elaborate: if you change a setting in your user profile the camera will revert to the default profile when restarting. If you leave your user profile unchanged the camera will restart in your user profile. All Leicas behave that way and I agree that it is annoying.

On my early M11 with current 2.2.1 firmware, the camera restarts with the settings of the user profile i was using previously, including any change i may have made to it.

I’m aware of this behavior. I tested my issue by selecting one of my 4 profiles and turning the camera off with no alterations, and then on again: the camera was invariably on the default profile.
changing this would seem to be an obvious firmware change.

My M11 does not do that at all. I have 6 user profiles and whichever is active, turning the camera off and on does not change anything. Are you sure your firmware is 2.2.1?

Here’s a possible explanation: if, for example, I’m using my profile #3, and I turn the camera off, when I turn it back on,  the menu screen shows a blank profile. Tapping it, the profile shows an “x”, where there had been a “3”. My problem is that without the “3”, I have no confidence in the settings, as I have been unpleasantly surprised in the past.
but here’s a more interesting possibility: I have 4 saved profiles. By chance, I just selected #5, unchanged from the factory setting, and it is sticky when I turn the camera back on. Does this suggest I have a setting in my 4 profiles that disables the sticky feature I want?

It could be that your user profiles need to be saved in the camera, or saved once more if you did it already.

I just confirmed that this does not resolve my issue.

This is normal behavior because something has changed in the settings of your profile in the meantime. But your profile is still in memory. If you want to see its icon again, just tap on the status screen as usual.

The ONLY change in my experimenting for the purposes of this discussion is turning the power off and then on. I’m aware of the behavior you are referring to, namely altering a setting which results in the profile number disappearing.

If you're 100% sure you did not change anything else, i would ask Leica or i would not care about this icon if your settings are still right.

My firmware is 2.2.1. - confirmed.
I’m wondering (hoping) that there is some setting that’s responsible for my camera’s behavior.

Mine too behaves the same like yours, tried to save the 5Ghz wifi band in a particular profile which failed to stay and always revert back to default profile each time

My M11 with FW 2.21 behaves like those of @jaapv and @lct, i.e., after selecting a profile, if I power the camera down and power it back on, the previously selected profile is still active.

I had the same problem with my new M11 and solved it as follows:

1. overwrite all profiles with the standard profil
2. than step by step configure new profiles and test after each profil, if the camera now behaves right

I think, a faulty saved profile was the reason with my M11

As with you, I was unable to make the 5ghz setting stick.
But in the same menu, camera settings, on screen 4, I took a shot at power saving mode > camera standby. In all 4 of my saved profiles, I had selected 2 minutes. I tried changing the setting to off, and saved the profile. I cycled the power, and the user mode reappeared. Success! Next, I did the same for the other 3 of my profiles, and again, success.
I’m wondering if others can reproduce this - what I’m tentatively calling a bug. I have only tried the off setting, and none of the other times, including trying 2 minutes again.
