My sincere wish is that the thumb rest so many of us use Be an integral part of the top casting.  Thus not filling the accessory shoe.

  • Stephen.s1 changed the title to Speaking of wishes for the next M...

And make it a practical size. Not like the apology for a thumb rest as on the M10.

I wondered why I was happier carrying my M6 or M7 than my my M10. It's because the film advance lever acts a an effective thumb rest, particularly makes carrying much more comfortable. A big issue when shooting over long periods.

The Thumbie works fine but feels less reassuring than a regular thumb rest fitting in the hot shoe of the camera or, better so, a built-in thumb rest as suggested by the OP. Especially with heavy cameras. A chrome M11 with Visoflex 2 and Summicron 50/2 DR weighs more than 1kg. One of the reasons why i would welcome an EVF-M with built-in Visoflex personally. YMMV.

and you can put an air tag in it if you like

I've never liked hand grips like these. They make the camera look big and bulky, almost like a DSLR. But to each his own.

his one lost all the black paint, it was on the M10, M10-R and now it is on M11

Good with heavy lenses.

Worth noting. The cameras are designed to be used, not carried. That may indicated choosing an appropriate bag and wearing appropriate clothing.

We've done bags. Could start a thread on appropriate clothing. That sounds like fun😆.

A ninja costume should be appropriate for a stealthy Leica photographer.

Mm. Clothing discussion. Always important.

Current state of the art:

Egyptian Late Old Kingdom Mummified Crocodile Leather Safari Jacket.

Pairs nicely with a Peruvian Llama Mummy Pelt Safari Hat.

Only appropriate, of course, with the Leica Extinct Species Special Edition Fetal Dodo Skin covering.

Anything else would be....

... simply vulgar.

But what is it in the gutter that is so fascinating? [I failed by the way; clearly I'm not a stealthy Leica photographer].

At the risk of becoming too serious, I really do dress to suit my photography intent, for the camera I choose and also the bag, if required, that will function efficiently.

Clothing with appropriate pockets, as may be required, mostly inconspicuous, and the right bag to correctly accommodate the camera gear. Of course, weather plays a part here as well.
