Yeah, but I mean you got all the elegant bearded influencers on yt shooting promotional videos in b&w and calling it revolutionary, that has got to count for something doesn't it?

this is supremely underwhelming. The only positive seems to be the lower weight. Battery life (around 230 with the EVF) is absurd, price is 8.000€, aesthetics are meh (personal opinion, I know), and I would be extremely hesitant buying this given the lack of opacity and laziness from Leica about the myriad software (and hardware) issues that may well carry over from the M11. Will happily stick with my 10-R and 10-M. Anyone else like they are continuing to take the piss a little...? It is a frustrating experience wanting to support a once innovative and reliable company when they release things like this and trumpet them as innovative and barrier-breaking. The last couple of lines from DPreview say it best for me: "After a few minutes of shooting with an M9, I understood why someone might buy a rangefinder. After a few days with the M-EV1, I'm at a loss to why anyone would buy this instead."

Exactly my thoughts. We all want to Support this once Great Company but this is just a Big laughter…

basically a Q with M Pricetag. The „entry“ into the legendary M System 😂

So the evf will have the smearing in lowlight? Focuspeaking is trash…

This seems like a great camera for a very tiny niche within the niche: photographers that use the M with the visoflex always attached. That’s basically all it is. The frame line selector seems like a gimmick as I’d rather control zooming and focus peaking with my right hand like on the SL line. When focusing I want to keep my left had on the focus ring the entire time.

My wife loves his soothing voice though. 😏

I've just read Jono's review and the good news for M11 owners is there is a positive firmware update likely on the way for white balance adjustment. The EV1 has it already, I see no reason that it will not be passed on to the rest of us.

Update is available for all M11's on Leica page.

I just left the presentation. The camera feels very nice in hand, the thumb rest is great and the EVF experience is definitely smoother than with the Visoflex.

Apart from that, nothing new. A combination of Q3 and M11 in a slightly different body. No new or fancy focus aids, same processor, same transfer speeds. If I would start from scratch, I would not hesitate to buy it. As an owner of a M11 with Visoflex, I remain underwhelmed about a prospective “Upgrade”. The usage of my beloved 21 SEM and Elmarit 90 would definitely easier and as a glass wearer I see an easier life. But the cost to change would be huge.

Sorry, but that is not true. EVF gives a view on the picture via the lightpath. The rangefinder tells, what the distance is of a minuscule part of the scene.

The problem is, that it works best wide open. It needs light.

But the problem of focus shift is gone.

On one hand, the M EV1 expands the user base and makes ultrawide and telephoto lenses viable. Also, no longer have to deal with miscalibration nonsense.

RF remains quicker and faster, almost every reviewer is stating this. The M EV1 really depends on your usage case.

For street or spontaneous photos, it'll be tough jumping through the hoops of the focus magnification / focus peaking before the moment gets away from you. Also, it would've been nice to have a joystick that could move the focus point around quickly rather than the directional pad in order to compose and shoot without having to re-compose. I guess for portraits and landscapes it's a nice alternative; provided you don't like the Visoflex 2 or the size of the SL.

Before the release I decided I would sit this one out and today has re-affirmed my decision.

I see no harm in this new model whatsoever.

The RF versions remains for those of us who prefer a rangefinder as the primary focus method.

"Purist?" Please, give it a rest.

If this brings new folks in who have been put off by tales of Dreaded Rangefinder Woe, isn't that a Good Thing?

This new model is an important and hopefully viable offshoot. And as for risk taking, Leica knew there would be howls from those whom others condescendingly call "the purists," and yet they released it, even stating that it is Leica's hope to make their systems more widely accessible.

I've been using Leica rangefinders for a very long time, but I guess I can't be a purist, because I think this new model is just fine.
