So, no mechanical shutter then?

Minor factual problem getting in the way of a pipedream - the Q has a leaf shutter …

Not sure why the EVF-M, whatever its name, should mimic any rangefinder. It is supposed to be a modern camera, so disguising it as a 70 years old camera won't bring it any more customers. The idea of an M-mount Q looks interesting from this viewpoint. It would complement the M11 and M12 rather than competing with them. Just a guess.

I don’t understand this price comparison with the Q.  When I last looked the Q had a lens attached.  Logic suggests this new M EV thingy should either have a lens thrown in for free or be cheaper than the Q.

Although once an in body shutter is incorporated, any cost benefit would probably be largely eroded.

Because M stands for rangefinder

People run fleets of Leica-Ms, so having common haptics is a major plus.

For oldies like me perhaps but even i would not be tempted by a new camera looking like coming from the last century. Marketing is not my speciality though admittedly.

Oh! I think you're quite wrong here - there is so much cool associated with the M design - disguising it as a 70 year old camera will bring in lots of buyers, but making it look like something else and it would just be an EVF camera with no AF (and who wants one of those).

. . . and even if you aren't looking at 'cool' those old guys who can't focus rangefinders will want their EVF camera to look like an M . . . and so would the people who want an extra camera to shoot wide angle and telephoto lenses.

Don't you think?

I used to at the beginning of the EVF-M adventure. I did like the simple idea of an M camera with the RF replaced by an EVF. Now the feeling i have is that this simple idea is not in force in Wetzlar any more, but i have no info about that admittedly.

Well, Leica Rumours seems to get it wrong so completely and convincingly that I wonder whether Peter feels that he gets more clicks by reporting bollocks . . . but hey . . what do I know? I have a suspicion that this whole EVF M thing is a hoax which won't happen . . . only thing I'm sure of is that Leica Rumours will be wrong!

Looking at the signs, it really won't be long before the new EV1 arrives. No M11-P in black or silver is currently available from the factory, only what's available in local stores.

We'll see how good the EVF really is in an M. Leica certainly won't make the same mistake with the M5 again and present decades-old customers with a completely new camera...

You may see the significant difference also in the top view. At least for the Q2.

But that reduction in size is quite impossible on an M lens camera as the flange-sensor distance is a fixed value and the sensor of the  M10 is already as close up to the rear as possible

Everyone has both understands that M and Q  are significantly different.

so a M with Evf does not equal to a Q with M mount, the later will be more interesting especially who has a lot of spare M lenses

I can see Leica doing a Q-M successfully with interchangeable M lenses, IBIS, and a tilting display for a travel camera that will work with all kinds of focal lengths. I only have M cameras, but I would consider something like this if the price was right.

Damn I got excited about a new line for a moment but after Jono’s comment, I’m going back to an M11-D top plate design, the Leica red dot where the window ‘should’ be and everything else the same as an M11. SL3 EVF built in. I’m also blocking Leica Rumours 🤣
