jonoslack Posted October 3 Share #2802 Posted October 3 I just wish that all these rumours were real, because it would have been so much fun to write about it! Then to watch the shit hit the fan afterwards. Sad really 🫣 2 3

I tried the m lenses on the SL but I didn’t saw a real advantage vs the SL lenses. Sold off the adapter. Having a Q, I do like the evf experience though. So, slowly I am thinking a m-evf might be a nice addition to a Q. I do like the experience of an evf, to see what I get, which is always a guess with a normal m. the M11-V or M12 whatever it is will need at least this EVF or its 12m dot updated version, which sony may or may not sell to Leica.... Markey Posted October 3 Share #2805 Posted October 3 Outside of forums like this most photographers I meet haven`t even heard of a Rangefinder yet alone understand the concept of seeing beyond the framed area. I`m not talking about youngsters but retired folk most of whom are ex film shooters and printers. Myself I`ve been using M`s since the early eighties and am more than comfortable with focussing with an EVF. Perhaps Leica have reached the point when producing an RF has become less viable but they still recognise the strength of the M`s iconic shape . Replacing the RF seems like a win win. It seems like a sensible business decision to slowly move away from this fifties method of focussing and replace it with a more up to date and cheaper method . End of the day we don`t know because we don`t have access to the sales figures and they`re the deciding factor in all this.
pgk Posted October 3 Share #2806 Posted October 3 So just how many here would pay a 'similar' price to the M11 for an EVF-M? [Its unlikely to be substantially different IMO].

So I’d like to believe it will cost less than M11, unless there’s some magic (read expensive) hybrid VF alongside the EVF.

Would be significantly less than the current M11-P (8,727 EUR). Edited October 3 by lct

costa43 Posted October 3 Author Share #2815 Posted October 3 (edited) Even if they could of released it earlier, Leica have a pretty predictable strategy with the M line. It must change its clothes over the seasons to maximise sales, this model is likely the last of the M11 gen and releasing it earlier could of interfered with sales of the RF models. Now it is just, what sells, sells. If it does not do well then maybe we will not even see a version 2. I can't see the price being less than around the 8k mark stated. It is still an M11 and to put it out for a few thousand less than the standard model would not be very 'Leica'. Edited October 3 by costa43

You may wish to do the math, but i would pay the same as for my M11 sans Visoflex2 (EUR 8,350) personally.

NigelG Posted October 3 Share #2819 Posted October 3 I doubt most people are even aware that the M has a rangefinder 😉

The key phrase there is "likely to sell fewer units" If the new version is a success however it will eventually become less cost effective to produce the RF version. That`s called covering your back.
