I personally like an EVF M as an addition to the M line up and would consider one especially paired with my UWA lenses (SEM 18, SEM 21, Lux 21). The OVF is already pretty useless when framing with those lenses, and for the most part I can zone focus those lenses anyway.

Then you do not need a range finder too :)

The surprise would be if the EVF-M or M11-V weren't a simple copy of the M11 at a similar price with built-in Visoflex 2 but who knows, besides insiders, at least not me.

I also think this is what we will see. M11-V (for Visoflex) The whole liveview system of the M11 is based on the Visoflex 2. Not sure whether the processor and the M11 in general can handle an upgraded viewfinder.

I think this new model will just fall into the 5 year cycle of Monochrom, D model, P model etc moving forward.

Since I own 2 newish M lenses that can close focus, currently I need an EVF on my M11xx in order to use the CF feature. That for me would be the main advantage if such an internal EVF camera were to appear.😀

If it is just a Visoflex built in, would you not prefer to just have the option of plugging one in when needed and retaining the rangefinder too? It’s ńot as elegant a design but the rangefinder is M.

I still contend that the ideal solution would be to retain the optical rangefinder and add a 1" OLED panel built-in / flush on the top panel of the camera, with the option of clipping on a waist level finder/magnifier or even a pentaprism - similar to the classic Nikon F2 or Hasselblad. A folded WLF being lower profile than the visoflex, so easier to bag.

I now use the EVF on my M's, but would prefer just a built-in EVF since I most often use the EVF plugged in anyway.

Ugh no.

not many want to admit this but a big part of what makes the M so desirable is that it’s beautiful. Please don’t make it a Nikon F2.

Because it would look much better without that ugly ass brick on top. I agree.

Interesting idea. If the rumours are accurate then I do actually think Leica are doing it correctly by offering a separate EVF only M for those that want it built in to retain the design. I’m just curious how many would buy it if it was just the Visoflex 2 technology when they have the option of using an add on accessory now.

It’s telling that the usuall suspects for testing such a new camera are silent on this thread ..

Jono is probably out shooting with it right now. 😉

Those who like EVFs and don't want to pay for a Visoflex 2 in addition to the M11, and perhaps also those who would like IBIS, although the stange enthusiasm of some insiders against IBIS makes me fear that it will also be absent in the EVF-M...

I think the obstacle for Leica is the same with an EVF M and a standard M, the space being limited. I don’t see how Leica will find the space with an EVF M to fit it in. The mechanical shutter going will surely be the likeliest path to IBIS. Failing that, increasing the thickness of the body but that’s a big no no for me!

Who lives close to Jono and has 600+ optics?😀

I'm just sitting next to him, eating breakfast. The new M lies between us. Unfortunately I followed your advice and took the new sigma 500 (no 600+) with me. It's a shame, but the close focusing limit prevents a picture :)

I feel the same way - for years we have been "fighting" for a slim M that is as "thick" as the analogue models. Why should we take a step back now?

And sometimes (not only with bif) only electronic shutter is not the best solution... and for example the Z9 "only" has 45 MP. With the Ms 60+ MP, fast reading becomes more problematic again... but I also don't want to know what happens if you reduce the MPs again with the new M.

I have no problems with the electronic shutter of my 60mp Sigma FPL so far and my backup M is an M240 i don't mind the fatness at all. Something tells me i won't get either with the EVF-M... GAS will better be strong to make me spend for such a beast...
