Do they? They might want to make the camera as attractive as possible for buyers outside the small sub-niche of Leica M owners who don't want an optical range/viewfinder. That has to do with the commercial viability. Otherwise it might meant a limited special edition @ xx.xxx,00 $$ Or no camera at all...

Miracles do happen, of course, and the Sony A1 sensor could theoretically be in this camera along with IBIS and the absence of a mechanical shutter. But I don't believe in such a large amount of happiness at one time 😀

IBIS is not as important as the focusing method that will be offered to us in the new camera. This method will either be the key to success or will bury the project.

I think it's too important to be buried, but this is their first attempt, so there will undoubtedly be opportunities for improvement and development in the future.

I don't get why people want an SL3 in the form factor of an M. A hybrid VF I would understand to eliminate the need of a Visoflex. But that would be as far as I would go until I would choose an SLx camera with adapter. But of course, to each his/her own.

Nobody needs an SL in M form. A simple change of form factor without a proposed way to focus wide lenses and lenses with a closed aperture will not work. Only a few will buy such a camera. Even a large screen will not save it.

It works on the M11 with Visoflex 2 already so i would not worry about this.

For most photographers, EVF/LCD focusing with closed aperture does not work precisely enough and is a major concern.

I admit that an M without mech shutter is an oddity... but IF they can arrange IBIS by saving the space needed by mech shutter... ok I think they do the right thing to make a camera that "smells of M" but trades RF/OVF for very useful features like IBIS , can be the way to keep alive the M form factor outside of we old M-ers 😉

That is challenging on all EVF cameras and still people use them with manual lenses. There are digital focus aids and focus confirmation aids as well. Not that they are really needed. I use M lenses down to 12 mm.  And the ones that have decent corners - mine happen to have them render perfectly sharp images on my SL2S.

Sigh… I knew I should’ve kept 28/2 Cron and sell only M240/M6 before getting Q3. If this M11-V is a real thing, I’d go back to M and 28 Cron. I guess the pricing will be interesting. In the recent years the price of M has gone up a lot. Not having RF this would pretty much be Q3 without AF in M body. But knowing Leica, it won’t be “affordable”.

Most EVF cameras use manual lenses with automatic aperture stop-down: you focus wide open, the aperture closes to working aperture when pressibg the shutter.

It is easy but not precise enough for most.

Precise enough for me including for pixel peeping at 60mp.

Because the best body and sensor stack for M lenses is an M, not an SL.
