My setup is standard for any camera I need to carry. Q3, X2D, Q3 43, etc.

1. Cheap padded case from Amazon. Cheap only in price, overall very well padded.

2. Case goes into Mystery Ranch Coulee backpack. 3-zip front loading design that I love while in the field. I love it so much that I bought one as a spare in case they stop making it. Amazing capacity and built to last a long time.

Whether I am in NYC, hiking in Montana or walking in Santorini - same setup all the time.

My preferred bag for an M or Q series camera is the Wotancraft Pilot 2L.  It is discrete and unassuming.  It has travelled many many miles around the world.

What does the outside material feel like, having read glowing reviews but some say its like sand paper against your body and also the inside the flap.  I do however like the leather version !

Thankyou 😀

They are not the same size.

Q3: 130 x 80.3 x 92.6 mm

Q3 43: 130 x 80.3 x 97.6 mm

FWIW, Leica's Etta Puch works for Q3 43.

Are the differences (92.z vs. 97.6) just due to a different lens? With or without lens hood?

Yes, the inside of the flap is the same material as the outside.  While I think calling it sandpaper is harsh, it is not smooth or soft.  I have never worn it against my body without a shirt for the day, but I do carry it to the side where it comes into regular contact with my arm.  I have never had any arm skin irritation from the using it for long days on trips that have lasted almost a month.  But, I was not wearing it against my body without a shirt.

The surface is a bit "tacky" compared to other bags, which I always considered a feature of it as it does not slide around a much as other bags.

Up against body skin all day without a shirt though, honestly, I am not sure if that would become irritating.

I agree with @LanceR , I had the same impression. My opinion is that the material is much better that the other similar used by other producers.

Interestingly, when I measure Q3 and Q3 43, including EVF protrusion and original lens cap, I see 108mm for both cameras, i.e., identical for any practical bag consideration.
